“In terms of % of world population, the Mongols might be the top killers in human history.”

Fortunately for them, they do not have any money so they are not on the SJW radar.

Mongols, shmogols. To this day, no empire has ever achieved the level of dominance and submission as Rome. Approx 1/4-1/3 of the total population under control - around 100m at peak expansion - were slaves.

But ultimately, these kinds of comparisons and analyses of which was "worse" are entirely fruitless. As wastoute observes, the core motivation for all life forms is 'life' itself: to live, survive and procreate. Since abundance is an extremely rare event, and happens only temporarily when it does occur, this establishes the basic rule that life is measured by competition over scarce resources.

Diversity isn't strength; it's weakness. The strong always defeat the weak, and take their land, food, women and children as concubines and/or slaves. The founders well understood this dynamic and attempted to construct a system by which it could possibly be managed. LOL

The take away lesson is not to be upset about enemies, but to understand what motivates them: greed, envy, jealously, deep seated resentment, poor self image, etc. At the end of the day, true enlightenment isn't being whipped around by emotional engagement, but rather measured and calculated odds and expectations.

They were the wrong color to be on the SJWs’ radar.

Exactly

But the rulers who controlled them were afraid to arm them.

Western Europe was of no use because they needed vast open space for the horses to graze.

Ironically the Mongols were over soon after the Russians mastered a firearm technology. Their huge cavalry lost to muskets and cannons.

"Yawn, another “journalist” doesn’t understand the word “decimated”."

Decimate Etymology Excerpt:

"The word decimate has a grisly etymology. It derives from a Latin military term meaning “to execute every tenth man in an army unit”— the penalty for a failed mutiny. As a result, some sticklers insist that the English word decimate should be used only to indicate “destroying a fraction of something” rather than “destroy completely” or “utterly wipe out.” Who’s right? This is part of a complete episode."

The audio of that episode (@ 39:40): LINK

In short, the word changed from its original historical meaning centuries ago.

Nope.

Others got it, am not concerned with a “Who’s right?” debate, thanks.

Have a nice day.

During this time, Genghis Khan's grandson, Batu Khan, decimated entire communities in his brutal - and bloodthirsty - bid for power.

WOW! Just like the corrupt idiots in our DEEP STATE - the sons and grandsons of men who achieved based on merit.... incompetent cruel 'fredos'....

If you download a free book from Gutenberg, “A Short History Of Russia”, by Mary Platt Parmele, you will get an excellent education about the beginnings of Russia. It was written just before the Tsar was overthrown, so it doesn’t cover that, but it really gives you a picture of the Russian mindset, which doesn’t seem to have changed much, from its earliest days, until now.

In my book, good ‘ole Genghis and family were the #1 butt-kickers of all time. They were brutal (which was normal for the 13th century); however, they were undefeated and had an empire for almost 200 years. It has always amazed me that a power like this could emerge from such a sparsely populated area. As a result, War colleges across the world have studied their tactics for hundreds of years. The modern tendency to dismiss them as simple savages is misguided. Genghis was absolutely brilliant.

I don't know if you're a podcast guy, and it's behind the paywall now so you have to pay $1.99 an episode, but Dan Carlin's Hardcore History did a terrific series of five episodes on the Mongols--8 hours worth. Wrath of the Khans

The Mongols believed they were divinely chosen to rule the world. When they approached a city, the residents were given a choice. Surrender and they'd be treated well and be incorporated into the empire. But if you resisted, then you were defying the mandate of heaven and there could be no mercy. When the Pope sent a letter to the Mongols asking that they spare Christians, the Mongol emperor at the time, Guyuk, sent back this letter:
"You must say with a sincere heart: "We will be your subjects; we will give you our strength". You must in person come with your kings, all together, without exception, to render us service and pay us homage. Only then will we acknowledge your submission. And if you do not follow the order of God, and go against our orders, we will know you as our enemy.

Thanks. I have run across Dan Carlin’s podcast before. However, I didn’t want to pay for it. On second thought, I think I should shell out a few bucks and check it out.

I do know that whenever I watch the History Channel’s show VIKINGS (which is their #1 show of all time and is actually pretty good from a historical aspect), I realize how popular a well-done show on the Mongols would be.

The new episodes stay free for a few years, then go behind a paywall. Right now for free are the series on the Persian Empire, on WW1, the first two episodes on the Japanese Empire in WW2 (3 should be out someday soon), and a couple of stray one-offs. All recommended. It’s a happy day when a new Hardcore History comes out, but it only seems to happen every 6 months or so. The guy does a lot of research going into each episode.
