As promised, we also have articles saying that Keto/Low Carb is bad for people. Informed people make the best choices. In this case, we have an article that both calls Keto high fat (which it is) and then says 3 sentences later that part of the diet is eating lean meat (which it is not...LOL). A few warnings, but nothing specific - just another 'nutritionist' (albeit good looking, for once) saying Keto is bad, but not being specific as to why it's bad. Also, the article is still pretty good overall - even though I didn't excerpt it, they do say that eating greens, even at pretty high levels, is ok, while eating some berries is also ok.

In any case, I post, you guys can take what you want from it.

(the text is kind of scattered around in UK tabloid style, so it doesn't flow too well. Also, even though it's a current article, I don't want to flood the new category with these types of articles, hence General/Chat)

LOW CARB / KETO PING!!!

Just hit the 50 persons mark! Incredible, and love the success stories. Feel free to also share bad things, if they have happened to you. So far, no bad stories, other than ones warning us either in articles like this, or sometimes people relating experiences of others they know - but not first-hand.

[p.s., anyone wanting to join, or leave, my Low-Carb ping list, just let me know, privately or publicly]

Yeah, I'll take advice from a pre-skin-cancer patient:

Here’s a similar story from the same publication. The lady lost nearly 4 stones (I get a kick out of the UK...stones are 14 lbs, so about 50 lbs.). The “after” picture shows a rally good-looking person!

The Government said so, so they must be right. It’s there on the innerwebs!?!

“As a general rule of thumb, the healthiest way to eat during mealtimes is through following the ‘Eat Well Guide,’ which is available on the NHS website and suggests 1/3 of our daily intake should be fruit and veg, 1/3 carbohydrates and just under a third beans, pulses, eggs, meat and dairy.”

Brought my A1C from my type 2 diagnosis last year from 7.8 to 5.6 in six months along with dropping almost 30 pounds. My VA Dr was pleased.

Horseshit. I’ve been doing keto for 3 years. Lost 25 pounds and “cured” my diabetes.

The establishment is mad that people are taking their health into their own hands instead of being fleeced by “experts”.

I had to look up “Associate Nutritionist”. Apparently she’s a student.

Anyway, people can stay on keto diets (or low carb in general) forever. The diet was first discovered by an anthropologist working with the Eskimos.

I agree it was hard to read.

What the article never touched on, was the fact that huge numbers of people around the world are basically subsisting on carbohydrate almost exclusively and it always leads to obesity, insulin resistance, inflammation, diabetes, heart disease, etc.

It is true the human body prefers to “burn” glucose instead of fat, but that’s what makes the Keto dieting effective. It more quickly forces the body to use up its glycogen stores and start to metabolize fat cells more rapidly. There is no other way to burn excess fat stores. Excess glucose is ever and always turned into fat and stored. It is not “natural” to eat a high carb diet, so it’s ironic for her to talk about what is “healthy”. LOL

It isn’t meant to be a forever diet, just one to use until you have reached a healthy weight.

This is what you get when “experts” are paid to just say something and aren’t required to make logical arguments or provide any sort of proof.

“Experts,” yawn. Whatever would we do without nutritionists and dieticians who are paid to toe the party line, and 20 years behind the times.

Best weight loss results I ever had was from breaking a leg and hauling myself around on crutches for a few months, but I wouldn’t recommend that!

Augustus Owsley Stanley III ate nothing but protein essentially from aged 30 till he died mid 70s in a car wreck in frontier extreme northeast Queensland ....near Mareeba and the coast about 150 miles west southwest of New Guinea

He stayed thin and hard and very energetic

Except for the car wreck he’d likely still be rather alive

An eccentric fellow

There is nothing in a carb that your body needs. It does fine without carbs. I can not find any medical evidence that keto is bad long term.
I’ve been keto since Jan lost 20 pounds and feel great. Staying with it until I have a reason not to.

Please sign me up on your list.
My A1c was just measured at 8.8 and now I have started a low carb regimen.

I dropped 6 pounds in a week, it’s probably mostly water.
Diabetes is killing me, it has given me some pretty severe nerve damage.

I have done it before and it works.
I don’t know why I let it get out of hand, there really is no excuse, maybe, I have been having a subconscious desire to die?

A year ago I was maybe about 20 lbs lighter. That is the difference. If there is any drawback to low carb weight loss it’s how bad you can boomerang away from it to the determent of your health.

I have lost hundreds of pounds through the years.
Yo yo- ing is the danger.

My goal is 7.0 A1c or better at Thanksgiving.
I’m going to have some mashed potatoes and stuffing.

Sugar is poison to many folks who don’t realize it.
An A1c is as important as having your blood pressure checked. The difficulty I have is adjusting my diabetic meds to the diet and avoiding getting hypoglycemic.

My docs solution was more meds.

He does not know me very well, I can effect it more by diet than he probably has the faith that I can.

He’s jut doing what doctors have to do because so many can’t bear the thought of giving up refined sugar and starches.

Or lose the 75 pounds my doctor says will put me at "normal"?
