Kroger, the United States largest supermarket chain, announced a corporate decision Tuesday about customers who choose to open carry in their stores dont do it unless you are a law enforcement officer. This announcement follows on the heels of Walmarts decision to ask the same of its customers where the law allows guns to be openly carried.

Except, it’s not private property. I can ask someone to leave my property, because my property is not a place of public accomodation.
Malls and restaurants and similar are “private property” in only a very, very narrow sense. They are places of “public accomodation” and we’ve had this beaten into us for decades. That’s OK, but it does not give the owner the right to ban firearms. It just doesn’t. They want to think they can, but they can’t.
Personally I think open carry doesn’t make much sense but it should be legal as a matter of state or federal law per se. “Keep and Bear Arms”. What do people think that means?
Mrs Deplorable and I will still carry in Wal Mart. We carry in Publix and if someone starts shooting, we will end it...if they complained, I’ll say 1 thug dead or more customers, which one would you rather have?
Market District in our home town has hurt Kroger their decision to not allow OWB should make it worse.
These idiots bring all this on themselves. I don’t give a rats behind if WalMart or Kroger goes under......they don’t give a fig about my safety (although I realize it’s not forbidden, just hide them) why should I give a fig if they go down?..It’ll never happen and I realize that but there are other choices to take my bidness to......;)
I won’t be able to grocery shop for very long. Only one left for me is Publix. Hopefully they don’t cave the the SJW gun grabbers. Unfortunately with Walmart the minuscule amount of customers who purchase firearms and ammo won’t even put a dent in their bottom line. I however will not shop there any longer. The boycott list is getting extremely long.
I’m in Houston, TX. I worked for Kroger for 8 years (ranging from bagger, checker, dairy clerk, overnight stocker, booth operator, customer service manager, and co-manager). The ONLY person(s) I ever saw open carry in stores from Nasa Road 1, Pasadena, Houston (Kirby), Houston (Montrose), or League City were the police we hired as security. Even the criminals just purse snatched as ladies waited in line at the ATM.
I’ve been going to Kroger for over 30 years, and never saw anyone other than uniformed police open carry.
Why? Concealed carry and you’re safer, even. Because then, the bad guys don’t know WHO will return fire.
It is not just that the criminals do not know all those on the side of law & order. The more armed participants on the side of law & order, obviously the better the ratio of the good to the bad: Simple mathematics.
Are they related to Market Street? Market Street doesn’t allow concealed or open carry in Texas. They have correct signage posted.
I dunno.....Rappini was talking about it. I didn’t know what Market District was myself....;)
ok...
Also free groceries.
The legal counsels for Walmart and Kroger are probably pretty confident that the courts would not have an issue with this. They aren't banning firearms, just how the firearms are being carried. Walmart and Kroger are responding to overly-sensitive customers who are troubled by open display by putting what would be probably ruled a non-burdensome restriction on those carrying firearms.
Public accommodation distinctions do not preclude businesses from prohibiting behavior as long as the rule does not discriminate against a particular protected category of person. That's why restaurants can refuse service to someone without a shirt or shoes. Or a hotel can refuse a room if you insist on bringing your pet. Or a business can prohibit smoking on its premises.
As long as the rules don't have a discriminatory purpose or effect, establishments of public accommodations have the right to create reasonable rules for patrons.
I rememberthat but they don’t prohibit open carry in their stores. I CC everywhere except government buildings. There are crazies everywhere.
“These stores are private property.”
My neighbors and I have an intangible property interest in our community. I don’t think it’s right for an outsider, who doesn’t live in our community, to come into our community, buy property in our community (again, while not even living in the community), and dictate to us what we can and can’t do in our community just based on the ownership of private property in the community in which, once more, the outsider dosen’t even live. Let the outsider obtain private property someplace more in line with his views.
Banning open is a step toward banning conceal ....

And, private property is private property. The 2nd amendment is for the government restrictions. Private property owners can ban you from coming onboard. That’s their right, and why there’s “PRIVATE” property.
Sorry but you know you are wrong .... do your research
No, do your research.
Private property owners can bar you from entering with open carry. In Texas, 30.06 and 30.07 laws are there for that purpose.
Now, go away troll.
