IMO, the presumption is government LIES.

Trump himself is an exception IMO.

What about the drop sondes and aircraft reports? Winds are usually lesser at the surface due to friction.

I hope it just goes back out to sea and fizzles over the colder water.

Off topic I know, but why does this group call themselves the “Weather Underground”? The Weather Underground was a domestic terrorist organization. Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dorn were key people involved.

Are they trying to be cute with that name?

“The last time there was a supposedly major hurricane the ground stations showed much less wind.”

So, I guess you’re saying wind speed for Hurricane Michael was exaggerated? I had multiple family members in the Panama City Fl. area that rode out the hurricane, and the wind speeds were not exaggerated. Mexico Bch looked like an atomic bomb had gone off, and Tyndall Air Force Base was nearly blown off the map.

The hurricane passed directly over Marsh Harbour International Airport. The highest reported wind gust for the last 12 hours was 46 mph. I don't know much about weather but that seems rather strange.

From a scientific standpoint, what does “less wind” mean?

But I do think Ventusky tops out at 90 mph.

At 1:45 on FOX they showed people walking on Juno Beach, which is about half way in between West Palm and Port St. Lucie.

The wind is blowing at maybe 20-25 MPH, nothing serious right now but if the storm turns west instead of NW, there will be some dead show offs floating on the Juno Beach.

I'm OK with that, these show off assholes just want their selfies and their pix on TV, it is their choice.

Agreed. I find WU is good for short term, but lacks reliability for South Florida summers. Hit and miss with the rain.

That said, an anecdote from this morning.

Publix is a large FL based grocer. I went in this morning, no shutters up on either the grocery store or the adjacent liquor store. A liquor store in a hurricane with no shutters?

The government bureaucrats really believe that the way to convince people to not repeat Katrina is to exaggerate.

The media is happy to have content that attracts eyeballs.

They both believe that lying/exaggerating is the way to save lives. They both believe that emotion, rather than facts and logic, is the way to save lives. Not much different with weather than with other parts of society.

The article (which is acutally titled 2 September 2019 - Hurricane Hoax at dagnyintel.com) says to check out other weather reporting because "the authorities" can't be trusted.

I check out weather underground. Because I tend to check links and sources and don't take claims at face value just because the MSM is not trustworthy.

At the top of the page is:

"Dorian Now a Fierce Category 5 Hurricane

After pounding the Northwest Bahamas with 180-mph winds, Dorian will move near the Southeast coast this week."

When the mainstream and independent news sites are all reporting the same important information, there is no conspiracy and no hoax.
