Pretty much cinches Verlander going to Cooperstown.

Nice!!! Very nice!!!
Wasn’t there a no hitter earlier this year, which was a combined no hitter among the the starter and some relief pitchers? With the trend nowadays to strict pitch counts, it’s become rare to see a pitcher get a complete game nowadays.

Should give him some extra Cy Young points for this year.

Yeah, although I think he was a shoo-in even before this no-no.
His third no hitter puts in very elite company. The only pitchers who had more were Nolan Ryan (he had 7 which will never be surprised) and Sandy Koufax (4).
I caught the last couple of innings. JV had complete command and control. The dude’s 36, an age at which most pitchers are on the downside of their careers.

There have been two combined no-hitters in MLB this year.

Apparently, married life agrees with JV.

Thanks for info. That’s what I’m talking about. They are so devoted to pitch counts nowadays, that they may not even let a pitcher go for a no hitter.

“Apparently, married life agrees with JV.”
I think if it weren’t for Kate Upton, JV would have 5 no-hitters and 300 wins by now.

It was a scoreless tie right up to the ninth inning. Fans had to wonder not only whether Verlander might get the no-hitter but whether the game might go into extra innings or Verlander might actually lose it in a heartbreaker.
Rookie Abraham Toro, who grew up in Canada, belted the two-run homer in the top of the ninth to give Verlander his two-run cushion. He struck out 14 and walked just one. He needed 120 pitches.

That bastard! I knew that son of a bitch would hit his stride when Detroit traded him to those Houston bastards. They should have at least got some chicken twists and alcoholic chicken from Tyler Chicken in return.

Sandy Koufax (4).
Koufax’s perfect game was a 1-0 win over the Cubs. The Cub’s pitcher threw a one hitter and the one hit did not lead to the Dodger’s sole run.

The dudes 36, an age at which most pitchers are on the downside of their careers. True ... which makes Ryan's last no-hitter -- at the age of 44! -- so impressive.

Ryan was a mutant....who worked his butt off. JV is cut from similar cloth. He has his routine (year round) and the discipline to stick with it.
