A UK group of climate activists is planning to fly drones close to Heathrow Airport next month in a direct action they hope will shut down the country’s largest airport for days or even longer.
The planned action is in protest at the government’s decision to green-light a third runway at Heathrow.
They plan to use small, lightweight “toy” drones, flown at head high (6ft) within a 5km drone ‘no fly’ zone around the airport - but not within flight paths. The illegal drone flights will also be made in the early morning at a time when there would not be any scheduled flights in the air space to avoid any risk of posing a threat to aircraft.
The activists point out that the government recently declared a climate emergency - when it also pledged to reduce carbon emissions to net zero by 2050 - arguing there is no chance of meeting that target if the UK expands current airport capacity.

What do you mean worsen? I thought the whole point of environmentalism was that the world is overpopulated. You climate activists should be pushing for fourth and fifth and sixth runways.
And this will shut down the airport...how?
Arm maintenance workers with double-ought buck or bring in 2.4 Ghz jammers. If they can’t deal with this much of a threat, the airport doesn’t have much of a security department.
Jam the frequencies. When they drop run them over.
So they're going out in the back yards to fly their toys 6 ft. above the ground........That ain't gonna shut down no airport......LOL!

I’ve often wondered if a simple spark gap could be used to flood the spectrum locally to disable drones, block radio signals, disrupt cell phones.
Don’t know enough about radio to build anything myself.
What a great idea, put innocent lives at risk to make an inane point.
Invite a couple of skeet clubs to take care of the problem.
This is good, the more these deluded fools do to cause hassle to normal peoples live’s the more the climate BS gets will get marginalized.

Everyone should take this very seriously, if you don’t think this type of action could shutdown Heathrow Airport, google it and read the articles.
Drones have already briefly shutdown Heathrow and to a much greater degree Gatwick.......
A drone sucked into a jet engine just about to touch down might be just enough to cause the engine to fail and cause a imbalance of power briefly enough to cause a real problem.....
All it would take is one jet cartwheeling down the runway for this to be a real tragedy....
Treat it like the terrorist attack that it is and shoot every f’n drone operator in the vicinity on sight. SAS has excellent snipers.

My son Ace (a pilot) flies in and out of London’s airport all the time. This harassment should be eliminated.
