[Snip] Yes, we've lost some already. On top of the icons who died horribly young decades ago Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Elvis Presley, John Lennon there's the litany of legends felled by illness, drugs, and just plain old age in more recent years: George Harrison, Ray Charles, Michael Jackson, Lou Reed, David Bowie, Glenn Frey, Prince, Leonard Cohen, Tom Petty.
Those losses have been painful. But it's nothing compared with the tidal wave of obituaries to come. The grief and nostalgia will wash over us all. Yes, the Boomers left alive will take it hardest these were their heroes and generational compatriots. But rock remained the biggest game in town through the 1990s, which implicates GenXers like myself, no less than plenty of millennials.
All of which means there's going to be an awful lot of mourning going on.
Behold the killing fields that lie before us: Bob Dylan (78 years old); Paul McCartney (77); Paul Simon (77) and Art Garfunkel (77); Carole King (77); Brian Wilson (77); Mick Jagger (76) and Keith Richards (75); Joni Mitchell (75); Jimmy Page (75) and Robert Plant (71); Ray Davies (75); Roger Daltrey (75) and Pete Townshend (74); Roger Waters (75) and David Gilmour (73); Rod Stewart (74); Eric Clapton (74); Debbie Harry (74); Neil Young (73); Van Morrison (73); Bryan Ferry (73); Elton John (72); Don Henley (72); James Taylor (71); Jackson Browne (70); Billy Joel (70); and Bruce Springsteen (69, but turning 70 next month).
A few of these legends might manage to live into their 90s, despite all the
wear and tear to which they've subjected their bodies over the decades. But most of them will not.

I dont think the touring wear and tear hurts
The exercise of it I think helps ....look at Jagger and Daltrey and Springsteen
Worst thing they do is many smoke...a rich man who eats decent and works out can take all the opiates he wants short of overdosing like Tom Petty did....the Tylenol they mix in will kill most first
Cocaine is deadly long term as is booze....usually
All those Women....maybe the biggest threat
Ive been going to Derek Trucks shows for 10 or more years now, and saw him before that with Gregg. Most recently I saw Tedeschi-Trucks Band at The Fox in Atlanta about a month ago. Lots of younger folks at his shows.
Willie is probably not long
Their losses were painful? Really?
I’ve never suffered pain from the death of a guitar player.
100 years from now people May still enjoy some of this music
They sure as hell wont be listening to anything in current production then
Yet me guess the usual hate filed snark about folks if they die
Free Republic snark rivals Breitbart posters ignorance
Willie? Rock?
Being a rock legend has to be the most crappy job no life always on the move no wonder they O.D.
There's a lot of great modern rock bands out there who have come out in the last 10 years. There's so many! The problem now is exposure. There are no radio stations or MTV these days to give cross-country promotion for up-and-coming bands so these guys are hungry and not making money. Great bands putting in 5-10 years tops through their 20s-early 30s and then throwing in the towel because they've got families to feed.
There's rock music out there, great NEW rock music. It's finding it that's hard and then when you finally do find it on Spotify or Pandora, turns out the band broke up three years ago.
Little Richard is 86.
“SHUDDUP! I started rock n roll. They stole it from me!”
Springsteen - about as much as Hillary.
LOL!
I am looking forward to it, for some of them...
The Boss, for example. And certain other rockers from New Jersey... Bon something or other...
The drummer/singer from the Eagles...
The piano player who did “The way it is...”
Ginger Baker is the real miracle, how he has made it to 80, I’ll never know.
Ringo Starr looks fantastic for his age.
What was the point of someone adding 2020 election and DNC talking points to the Keywords?
Sting is another one who looks great for his age.
Must be all that Tantric Sex. ;)
