Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs died from a toxic mix of the powerful painkillers fentanyl and oxycodone along with alcohol in an accidental overdose, a medical examiner in Texas said in a report released Friday.
The 27-year-old Skaggs was found dead in his hotel room in the Dallas area July 1 before the start of what was supposed to be a four-game series against the Texas Rangers. The first game was postponed before the teams played the final three games.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office issued a technical report that said Skaggs died as a result of "mixed ethanol, fentanyl, oxycodone intoxication with terminal aspiration of gastric contents."
It said simply: "Manner of death: Accident."

Why the hell dont we use fentanyl in executions?
Great question.
My wife and I have had heavy duty orthopedic surgeries with Versed and a little Fentanyl in same day surgery and gone home in the same day.
Of course the above was administered by boarded anesthesiologists.
It seems somehow strange that some renegade Chinese are helping us take out the trash...but poetic, in a way, too.
“Accidental overdose?
An overdose is an overdose.”
There is no difference.
That is, they’d even find ways to abuse the use of fentanyl.
Ijrc this exactly what tbey said he didnt die of.
Being an idiot is not an “accident”.
He was given a gift, a unique gift, of professional level athletic talent. And he pissed it away for a cheap rush.
Starting pitcher....has 4 days between work/starts
Why couldn't the members of Motley Crüe OD?
Yes, there is. Someone trying to get high doesn’t mean to overdose. Someone trying to kill themselves purposely overdoses.
But, you already knew that.
How does one accidentally take booze, fentanyl, and oxy at the same time..that is one huge boo boo..its very sad for his family that this will be his legacy and not what a good pitcher he was
Have you thought of becoming a motivational speaker?
It’s impossible.
I think he pulled a Jimi Hendrix/Janis Joplin, ie, choked on his own vomit after passing out.
“This was NOT his first rodeo. This cocktail indicates long term abuse.”
You got that right. He must have gotten it illegally. I did all but beg my doctor for tramadol for neck and back pain, and he wouldn’t give it. Honestly, it pisses me off having to sit on my butt most of the day with a heating pad not able to be on my feet for more than 10-20 minutes at a time.
At least he didn't choke on somebody else's vomit, like the drummer in Spinal Tap.
You need to see a new Dr. Tramadol is NOT considered an opioid and your Dr. should not have a problem prescribing it!! Get a NEW Dr. !!!!!
