Staring down the barrel of a semi-automatic rifle wasn't enough to spook a cigarette-puffing St. Louis man into giving up his valuables early Wednesday morning when an armed robber came into a local bar demanding money.

Bartender Dustin Krueger was serving six customers around 12.30am Wednesday at Behrmann's Tavern on Maramec Street near S. Compton Avenue on the city's south side when the unidentified gunman stormed in wielding a huge, military-style gun.

Soundless surveillance video of the incident shows most of the bar patrons quickly raising their hands and sprawling on the floor as the thief made his way through the room.

But one anonymous bar customer wasn't having it.

That got my attention even more than the stubborn customer did. I miss those days. I don’t mind having Smoker’s Sections, vs being pushed outside to stand with the homeless.

The “stubborn customer” was probably just too drunk to be thinking clearly. Some folks get too friendly after a few drinks, while others get too fussy and ready to stand their ground over anything.

They duck under the tables and hand over their wallets when asked. But one man is different. I believe there are no laws against smoking in a bar in MO. But many places are starting to ban it because their customers don’t to be around the smoke—which is how it should be rather than passing a law and hiring ‘inspectors’ to enforce it.

And the robber. To give him credit, he was not willing to kill someone over a phone or a few bucks. (Of course we don’t know if his weapon was functional). So much better than seeing people hurt/killed.
