Fourteen years ago, I moved here (OH) from MA with my beloved Kelsey, the most loyal and loving canine companion you could imagine, who had Lyme Disease. Out here, the Vet gave me a real good suggestion. Make a list of which conditions and type of situations you would treat and which ones would cause you to let your canine companion move on. As a result of that list, I made a sensible decision, and didn't punish her by extending her life out of my false hope.

My most recent dog, Chaucer, had to be put down last December. I'm glad I made that list for him. It made me realize that he was actually communicating to me that his time was over, with the heart ailment he had being most likely incurable.

our old dog had sundowners syndrome and then dementia.

It was hard to watch, he was in great shape for his age.

A neighbor kept lobbying for him to be kept alive and even suggested a nursing home for dogs which opened down the road.

Pup was suffering when he was lost in his dementia. He was so frightened.
