‘This ain’t your mother’s marijuana,’ surgeon general says
Associated Press ^ | August 29, 2019 | Ricardo Alonso-Zaldivar

Federal health officials issued a national warning Thursday against marijuana use by adolescents and pregnant women, as more states legalize the increasingly potent drug for medicinal and recreational use.

Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar and Surgeon General Jerome Adams made the announcement, with Azar calling marijuana “a dangerous drug.” Officials said President Donald Trump has donated $100,000 — one-quarter of his annual government salary — toward a digital campaign to raise awareness of the risks. Trump has forgone his official salary since taking office.

The warning comes as legal marijuana has grown into a $10-billion industry in the U.S. with nearly two-thirds of states legalizing it, mainly for medical uses. An increasing number of states and localities are also allowing personal, recreational use. […]

Adams said science shows that marijuana is harmful to the developing brains of teenagers and to the human fetus. The drug has also gotten stronger, with a three-fold increase in the concentration of the active ingredient THC in cultivated plants over the last 20 years.

“This ain’t your mother’s marijuana,” Adams said. […]

Federal officials say they fear the trend toward legalization may make it more enticing for teenagers to try marijuana. It’s a commonly used drug among youths, they said, along with alcohol and e-cigarettes. No states allow legal marijuana use by teens. …

What do we do about all the hundreds of whacked out druggies outside my office building right now? Euthanize them? That is probably the best solution.

America loves to talk about "rights." No one dares talk about the other side of that coin - responsibility (or consequences). Rights without responsibility quickly devolve into license, and then into chaos. That's where we are now.

The wildwood flower grew wild on the farm,
And we never knowed what it was called.
Some said it was a flower and some said it was weed,
I never gave it much thought
One day I was out there talking to my brother,
Reached down for a weed to chew on,
Things got fuzzy and things got blurry,
And then everything was gone!
Didn’t know what happened,
But I knew it beat the hell out of sniffin’ burlap.

“Marijuana is well documented in studies as causing permanent psychosis and schizophrenia, especially in young users.”

No, it’s not.

However, it’s been statistically linked to psychotic episodes and schizophrenia. And the authors of those studies readily admit that it was likely only a trigger for those who were going to end up there anyway.

Accuracy is important. This is an emotional subject.

If you’re borderline nutso, don’t smoke pot. Or, drink whiskey for that matter. It’s likely bad things will result.

One recent study said over 25% of Americans have admitted to seeing or hearing things that were not there/real. Those are the people that should NEVER smoke pot. They don’t have an adequate handle on reality to begin with.

“Ironically, the people so worked up about GMO don’t ever talk about the fact that modern marijuana has been heavily modified by GMO to be more powerful.”

Bullshit. That’s just a lie.

The dea is setting up the marijuana industry just like they did with opioids. We are seeing the same thing. Commie tactic of buying the rope from the capitalist to hang them.

In 2012-2016 Dea allowed opioid production to increase by 40% even though they knew about the “crisis”.

Now do believe for one nanosecond that the Feds give a crap about public health!

They want to set up marijuana business. Like they did with opioids.

The stuff out there now sure ain't that Mexican dirt weed from back in the day.

Back in the day? Are you still living in the 1960s?

He's talking about 20 years ago. IOW, the late 1990s.

No one in the late 1990s/2000s was smoking Mexican dirt weed.

Yeah man. We paid 18 bucks for a OZ of Mexican dirt weed. And 35-40 for red or gold weed. Hash was also big back then. (early 1970s.)

How much was the hourly wage in the early 1970s compared to today.

How much did a house cost in the early 1970s compared to today?

A gallon of gas?

Yes, the price of weed has gone up since the 1970s, but guess what? So has the prices of everything.

There’s a term I haven’t heard in decades. Mexican dirt weed. All compacted together with stems and seeds. Brown as shoe leather and guaranteed to make you tired and anti-social. What did I find so great about that crap? Once skunk-weed hit South Jersey, the quality of weed got better and Mexican dirt weed was no longer in demand.

Some scientist say “marijuana bad” and we all take their findings as gospel.

Speaking for myself, I was turned off by the legalize marijuana movement because the overwhelming number of spokesmen are Woody Harrelson types. Here in Arizona, the "medical" marijuana is marketed like soda pop and fast food, complete with "spokesman" Tommy Chung, laced-pizzas, cookies, etc., secret menus, and saucy models on billboards. For some reason insulin and anti-cholesterol drugs don't get the same marketing treatment. Thoses state pressured into medical marijuana then get pushed into full-legalization, where it is harder to get real Actifed decongestant than weed. I am also unimpressed by how habitual marijuana usage has harmed a number of my friends from youth. I see nothing in common with anti-pot folks and the scientific-consensus-on-anthropogenically-caused-global-warming crowd.

We have all seen the Don’t Drink and Drive billboards and the MADD adds. I saw a new one here now that we have legalized “medical” marijuana that anyone can get a prescription for if they have $125. Big billboard: “Don’t Drive Stoned”.

Our brilliant state legislature has now passed a law that prohibits discrimination in hiring or firing if the candidate or employee for a job tests positive for marijuana.

Wonderful.

Just another state full of idiots, Oklahoma where the roads all suck and everyone complains.

Yeah..they been saying that for 40 years...Were it true, just rolling it would send you to Mars.

THAT said, there are many harmful effects that should be honestly reported and listed free from the scarey boogeyman hype. Such as memory loss and dampened motivation to name a couple...

I forget the rest....

The weed back in the 70’s was full of seeds, leaves, and sticks.

And we were damn glad to get it.

These kids are spoiled.
