NEWBURGH, N.Y.- About an hour and a half after a group of children in New York decided to sell lemonade during rush hour, police showed up after receiving a call, possibly complaining about traffic caused by the stand.
Mother Whitney Glover says she helped some kids in the Newburgh, N.Y., area put up a lemonade stand Monday.
"We were probably out there about an hour and a half, when I noticed the cop car pull up, Glover said.
An unidentified person saw the group selling lemonade and, instead of stopping for a cup, called the police.
"His first words were, 'Can you believe someone called the cops on kids selling lemonade?'" Glover said.
Officers Clayton Dubois and Thomas OConnell say the kids werent doing anything wrong, but the stand was creating some traffic.
"Sometimes when people stopped in the middle of the road to get a cup, the cars behind would beep and make nasty faces, said another adult helping with the stand.
The officers bought cups of lemonade and posed for pictures with the kids.
"They couldve shut it down. A lot of cops probably wouldnt have handled it that way, but [they] handled it really well, she said.
Glover posted about the incident on Facebook, calling the person who complained bitter. Since then, she says dozens of customers have stopped by, and the kids made hundreds of dollars in three days.
"I wasnt expecting it to become the way it did. It was more of an appreciation and a thank you to the police officers, she said.

The kids intend to keep selling lemonade until they return to school next week.
Ugh. Please excuse the copy/paste mess. I probably should have waited for another cup of coffee before posting.
Why would you stop in the middle of the road to get a cup of lemonade? Other than that,go for it.
What are the odds NY eventually goes after the kids for tax evasion when the “bitter” drivers don’t get their pound of flesh?
Or another cup of lemonade.
Also, cudos to the police officers! Well done.
Good news is worth a second read. No apology necessary.
Did they have a business license? Health inspection? Tax number?
If not, LOCK ‘EM UP! /s
Ever been to Newburgh? Kids there need all the help they can get. God bless these kids, the adults helping them, the folks who stopped for a drink, and those LEOs.
I wonder if the kids were white would the outcome have been the same?
I hope the “unidentified person” learned something, but probably not.
Well, that is a good question.
They obviously violated zoning and the child labor laws!
Feel good story of the day!
Good for the kids and the Cops.
Oh—and the Department of Agriculture food inspectors did not sign off on their product—food safety is important, ya know. ;-)
Normally, I come down on the side of the lemonade stand. But if it is causing a traffic problem, it needs to be closed up. Traffic problems actually are DANGEROUS, especially with people texting.
Just watch crash compilations on Youtube and you’ll see what I mean.
Sir Robert Peele lives. And that is a very good thing.
Kudos to these officers.

The unidentified person was likely a lefty and horrified at seeing such young people having to work, let alone engaging in capitalism.
CALL LIMPDICK DURBIN, U.S. SENATOR. HE WROTE THE LEGISLATION AGAINST LEMONADE STANDS.
