Free Republic… Under the pope

Posted on 08/28/2019 9:59:42 PM PDT by RevelationDavid

I’m sure this post won’t stay up long… But as a born-again evangelical I no longer feel comfortable on this site. It has become openly and aggressively pro Catholic. Catholicism is heresy.

Thank you Jim for putting so much effort into this clearinghouse of ideas… But the bombardment of papers nonsense can a longer be tolerated by me.

God bless all who proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord. God bless America

I cannot say, as politics of the secular realm is my main reason for being on FR. Matters of faith tend to be contentious. I grew up next to a Southern Baptist family of eight and was always treated kindly and with respect, perhaps that has something to do with it.

Before The Pill fostered a current generation of many spoiled, easily offended, touchy intolerant protesters.

I don’t know if the kitty bit me; but I have had a few timeouts over the years.

Most I deserved as well.

A couple of times I was merely misunderstood. Sniff - sniff.

The wife noticed these 1-2 hour daily gains in my free time and immediately pounced upon me with a bigger HoneyDo list!

I hope I’ve learned my lesson well, as I do NOT want to repeat THOSE episodes!!

To those of us in the Roman Catholic and Eastern/Oriental Orthodox worlds, Protestantism is pure heresy.

Alrighty then!!! Forgive me, but your post sounds like it was written after reading one too many garbage "Chick Tracts".

Really?

I am Catholic and am one of the biggest complainers.

When you finally get tired of just complaining; you might actually DO something.

I'm sure there are a few doors, on a few RC churches, that could use a list or two tacked to them.

... think the Bible has all we need to get right with Christ.

So?

A Catholic will say the same thing!

However; sooner or later; a "BUT" will pop up in the conversation.

So; here we are.

Over 200 replies, THOUSANDS of words; but has anyone noticed that in a catfight P vs C thread there is very few words of SCRIPTURE presented?

I do not nail lists. That is for Lutherans. Who I used to respect as much as any church but who have now…like the current ‘Francis RC Church’ gone WAY LEFT.

I currently worship in my own way now. I don’t enter any special building to do it. The fix would be after Francis, if the college of cardinals decide to fix the problem. Until then I’ll keep worshiping my way.

[Boatbums] Yes, that was an interesting read. However, it should be noted that it was NOT the Protestant church(es) that advocated the persecution of the Catholic immigrants but disgruntled laborers and political individuals (who may or may not have even been Protestants) who objected to the perceived threat to their jobs, their schoolchildren and their national leadership. This was finally suppressed by governmental forces and religiously tolerant church leaders. No true Christian condones what was done to those innocent people nor rationalizes the actions. The same cannot be said of the religious persecution of non-Catholics by official decrees of the Catholic hierarchy that lasted hundreds of years.

The American Protective Association Oath In 1887, Henry F. Bowers founded the nativist American Protective Association (APA) in Clinton, Iowa. Bowers was a Mason, and he drew from its fraternal ritual—elaborate regalia, initiation ceremonies, and a secret oath—in organizing the APA. He also drew many Masons, an organization that barred Catholics.

So you mean a fraternal non-Christian sect (which has been long-opposed by evangelicals such as by Walter Martin ) that from 1738 (in which Pope Clement XII promulgated In eminenti apostolatus, the first canonical prohibition of Masonic associations) had been damned by Rome, was acting like the Catholic church, except with far more moderation?

This secret oath taken by members of the American Protective Association in the 1890s revealed the depth of Protestant distrust and fear of Catholics holding public office.

In 1887. So just why would there be Protestant distrust and fear of Catholics holding public office, when obedience to the pope required:

Secular authorities, whatever office they may hold, shall be admonished and induced and if necessary compelled by ecclesiastical censure,...to exterminate in the territories subject to their jurisdiction all heretics pointed out by the Church ;

But if a temporal ruler, after having been requested and admonished by the Church, should neglect to cleanse his territory of this heretical foulness, let him be excommunicated..that he may declare the ruler’s vassals absolved from their allegiance and may offer the territory to be ruled lay Catholics, who on the extermination of the heretics may possess it without hindrance Canons of the Ecumenical Fourth Lateran Council (canon 3), 1215: http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/basis/lateran4.asp

The head of state or ruler must, within ten days after the accusation, complete the following tasks: the destruction of the houses, the imposition of the fines, the consigning and dividing-up of the valuables that have been found or seized , all of which have already been described in this decree. He must obtain all fines in coin within three months, and divide them up in the manner to be set forth hereafter, and convict of crime those who cannot pay, and hold them in prison until they can ....

The head of state or ruler must divide up all the property of the heretics that is seized or discovered by the aforesaid officials , and the fines exacted from these heretics, in the form and manner following: one-third shall go to the government of the state or district. The second as a reward of the industry of the office shall go to the officials who handled this particular case. The third shall be deposited in some secure place to be kept by the aforesaid Diocesan bishop and inquisitors, and spent as they shall think fit to promote the faith and extirpate{11} heretics, this policy prevailing in spite of any statute that has been or shall be enacted against this dividing-up of the heretics' property . - Pope Innocent IV, Ad extirpanda :

Then we have the history of persecution and murder of those who would not submit to Rome .

You can complain that this does not fit well with the attempt to portray Catholics as pitiful objects of persecution, but the fact remains that in the context of history everyone who believed in freedom of worship (or not to) had sound reasons to oppose Catholics obtaining in public office. Of course, they also should oppose any formal state church enforced by the power of the sword of men, though not from moral laws as regards actions, that flow from Christian religion.

It is quite obvious that God the Father, Jesus the Christ and the Holy Spirit all work with Satan. Or more correctly that Satan works for God. God (the Trinity) has a plan. That plan as described in the Bible includes Satan. For the implementation of that plan God gave Satan dominion over the Earth. If I give someone authority over some part of my property as part of my plan it is obvious that the person is doing my bidding. That person is working for me.

But in the context of the post, one was being charged with denying the Trinity by denying the RC deuteros under the premise that it had been in the Old Testament for about 1800 years. Which was both a fallacious premise as well as a logical fallacy, as explained .

True - reading a book about Christians going into danger to help others during a serious disease breakout - A kid mentions that a lot of Christian religions are participating but not so many Catholics....he asks why they don’t do as the bible suggests and the mother quips that Catholics don’t read the Bible...

The Pill, and it’s seepage into the water system. Now it makes even males intolerant and easily offended protesters. It all starts in grade school nowadays, with marxist inspired teachers telling kids to be overly sensitive. It then gets worse in college, where one’s grades in certain classes DEPEND on being an intolerable obnoxious snowflake.

It all starts in grade school nowadays, with marxist inspired teachers telling kids to be overly sensitive. It then gets worse in college, where one’s grades in certain classes DEPEND on being an intolerable obnoxious snowflake.

It all began with Lucifer who was apparently "offended" by God having the preeminent position of power and honor, and his arrogant selfish "I will" assertions (I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.. (Isaiah 14:14) marked the first occasion of the "share the wealth" demand under the false premise of injustice, and the first "occupy movement." Which was essentially what the devil worked to seduce Eve with, in selfishly trying to get what he wanted. So do his proxy servants. God in contrast, is the benevolent Giver, while the devil is a thief, a liar and a murderer. (Jn. 8:44; 10:1)

We can be sure God has His eye on all of us. If we are wrong about anything and are of a devoted mind and heart, and ask Him to do so, He will lead us out of any unconscious error we might be in.

Those who argue one brand of Christian faith against another are missing that deeper reality. It’s between the individual and God. If that personal relationship isn’t there, then we have no way to be led out of wrong thinking.

Remember how Amir asked the Lord to give him the lowdown on Jesus. The same applies to arguments among those who have received Him.

Where do you get that idea?

Rome.

It does NOTHING to dissuade that view.

Mary Leads Her Servants to Heaven
by St. Alphonsus de Liguori

In this article taken from The Glories of Mary, Saint Alphonsus explains that there are countless souls in Heaven who are there now only because Mary, by Her powerful intercession, led them there.

If a soul persists in true devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, She will certainly lead that soul to Heaven.

A devotion to Mary can certainly help but no teaching of the Church could ever lead one to believe that it is the path to salvation.

You walk a path. There is no 'path' to walk to reach or earn salvation. Catholicism would have you believe you can be infused (like the drip of an IV) with eventually sufficient righteousness via a sacramental path, to reach an eternal life righteousness state, after you zip through pope Gregory's purgatory.

The Word of God tells you that the Righteousness of Christ is IMPARTED to you the hour you believe God sent Him for your salvation.

The difference in infusion and imputation is eternally meaningful. The infusion lie exploits the pride nature of all humans. The Imputation truth honors the source of righteousness not someone trying to earn it.

I apologize if you found my post offensive. I should have put it more delicately. What I was trying to express is that from that the term 'heresy' is relative depending on the perspective of one's denomination, even though since people in each denomination think theirs is the right one, the term seems absolute. I didn't mean to actually call anyone a heretic.

What is obvious from the real world though, is that the Catholic and Orthodox Churches don't trash anybody, while the evangelical world produces garbage like Chick Tracts that accuses other Christians of being borderline demonic.

A devotion to Mary can certainly help...

Help WHAT?

Jesus needs NO 'help' from ANYONE to save MY soul.

There was NO teaching about Mary; other than she was a virgin that gave 'birth' to the fleshly component of Jesus Christ; as predicted.

The Bible that Rome gave to the world shows NOTHING of her 'help' with ANYTHING.
