Iowa man who killed top golfer from Spain gets life sentence August 23, 2019
AMES, Iowa (AP) The man who fatally stabbed a former Iowa State University golfer from Spain while she was playing a round near the school was sentenced Friday to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Collin Richards pleaded guilty on June 14 to first-degree murder in the Sept. 17 slaying of 22-year-old Celia Barquin Arozamena. Police said Richards stabbed her on the course near the central Iowa campus in Ames and left her body in a pond.
Richards had been staying at a homeless encampment in nearby woods. Ames police reports show that Richards struggled with drug and alcohol abuse, mental health problems and homelessness after he got out of prison three months before he killed Barquin. He had served roughly seven months behind bars for violating the terms of his probation on convictions for burglary and other crimes.

So for the rest of his life he never has to worry about where his next meal is coming from or how he can find a warm bed. Meanwhile a family mourns for the daughter they will never see again.
‘Struggling with’ is one of the media’s most odious cliches.
The perp was a psycho lowlife. No need for a sympathy play.
He had quite the rap sheet already.
Over 2 dozen charges, IIRC.
But no details are ever given aside from drugs and burglary.
I’d be very interested to know what the rest of the charges involved.
I recently read an obit of some local guy who OD'd. The obit was all about how hard he struggled, his valiant efforts to break the cycle, his many noble attempts to recover from his addiction. But it seemed to me that his whole life was just a long drug-fueled waste. He didn't struggle all that hard, I think.

Celia Barquin Arozamena
I agree.
Collin Richards
I have a gorgeous daughter like Celia. I worry about some nut attacking her every day as do millions of other parents I’m sure. All because of Liberalism. This sob should be dispatched with a .22 round to the temple, with plenty time before hand to think about it and broadcast on World Wide TV.
This turd has gained weight in prison and appears in general physically better shape than when arrested.
Last name “Richards”? Sorry but he looks Hispanic to me. These people come here and change to Anglo last names. I’ve seen it with so-called “dreamers” living in Florida. With last names like “Saxon”. Now that one tells you something, right? It’s disgusting how the treasonous U.S. media with its sycophantic “journalists” refuses to investigate ANYTHING.
Back in the 1960s he would have been a patient in a state mental hospital. We have let the Marxists do this to America. The inmates dont run the asylum. They let them run free.
Satire?? To what end?
He looks like a borderline retarded White male to me.
Golf has lost a gem.
Thankfully justice is served ..... by half .... murderers should get equal opportunity repercussions.
Too bad she didn’t clobber the schwanz lutscher with a sand wedge as soon as he got in range.
Cases like this illustrate the profound failure of the “criminal justice system”.
I got my daughter a concealed carry permit for a college graduation and let her choose a gun she liked. Best investment you can make...
face it, the defense of drug users and the mentally unstable is same mentality that defends pitbulls as "fur babies".
She is not the first, nor will she be the last. Each day countless killers and rapists are released from places of confinement by Liberal Judges and faceless bureaucrats to once again prey upon a helpless public.
Even though this young lady's killer is or is supposed to be incarcerated at this time, a future Governor will have the authority to commute his sentence to time served and release him. The murderer is young and there are legions of people working behind the scenes to get those such as him released as soon as possible.
You had me up till the furbabies thing.
Yes the breeding and training can be awful. But the ones I have owned (and some still are in my family) are sweet wonderful protective animals.
Then again I would attempt to train Timberwolves and bears.
