This is hardly news. Boston did the same thing in 2004. They even shut down the expressway which ran next to the convention. The best was the caged free speech zones. Outside those cages disrupters were subject to arrest.

The GOP decided it was a good idea to hold their convention in a city with a Democrat mayor, where the city council has a 9-2 Democrat majority, and where the state's governor is a Dem.
