Jennifer Smith always said if she was the last person to finish a race, shed quit. For most of the ones shes run in her life, shes always been in the backthough never actually last but on July 11, she was finally bringing up the rear.
This was her first marathon, something Smith long wanted to tackle, but never expected to do so soon. She had only raced 5Ks at that point, and the farthest shed ever run before that was eight miles. Yet, before she knew it, the gun had gone off, and she quickly found herself behind everyone else.
At 346 pounds when she weighed in before the race, she didnt expect to finish with a good timeshe just wanted to finish.(snip)
Planning began a year ahead. Smith didnt want to just run for herself. She wanted to run for anyone who thought they couldnt do itespecially those who felt constrained by their weight. So, at 380 pounds at the time, she signed up and immediately reached out to Guinness World Records to see if she would qualify for the heaviest woman to complete a marathon record, which is currently held by Ragen Chastain, who completed the Mainly Marathons at 288 pounds in May 2017. (snip)
Smiths final time was 11:50:36. With her increase in physical activity during her training, Smith dropped almost 40 pounds, weighing in at 346. When she crossed the line, not only did she complete her first marathon, but she also unofficially became the heaviest woman ever to finish 26.2.
Though the record is not official until it is verified by Guinness, Smith gathered all of the required evidencevideos, witness statements, start and end weights, and race directors contact infoand is preparing to send it in for verification.

Genetic outliers. You are most likely not some 4-6 sigma from the norm human being.
It’s the best in the city.
I vary my exercise from lifting, sprinting, sports, swimming, and yoga.
I do breathing/meditation as well.
Im naturally hyper, so yoga and meditation help a lot.
Ease into it. When CrossFit started catching on, a lot of beginners started going full out and got rhabdomyolysis.
Not a good goal for health and fitness.
To be fair, the routines were too hard and too long.

You sound like a doc. Doc?
LOL! It’s not too late.
that’s great.
Impressive, but she’ll see her times greatly improve if she’d simply get off carbs.
Yep, I probably can go at about 80-90% for 15 second stretches, but my rest periods are still too long, and I stretch the whole workout to 30 minutes.
That’s fine. You’re pushing yourself, but not too far.
Take your time, eat healthy, and you’ll be good to go.
I’m Italian and they put so much cheese on everything!!
But yes, and sorry.
But heroes glopped in cheese or pizzas with extra cheese or a ton of grated cheese on angel hair tastes GREAT
sex on a plate :)
Of course he died. He would be over 2600 years old if he hadn’t died
I agree...especially after a certain age (20s)...and if overweight
“You shouldnt do more than 30 minutes of high intensity Cardio per day, more than that is counter-productive.”
If you’re jogging for weight loss, all—all—the weight loss comes in the second half hour, after you’ve hit and pushed through the wall.
Jogging for 30 minutes is a complete waste of time.
Been there, done that, had to buy a smaller T-shirt.
If I could do that, I might "misplace" the 20-30# I've been after for the last several years.
As they speed through the finish, the flags go down
The fans get up and they get out of town
The arena is empty except for one man
Still driving and striving as fast as he can
The sun has gone down and the moon has come up
And long ago somebody left with the cup
But he’s driving and striving and hugging the turns
And thinking of someone for whom he still burns
He’s going the distance
He’s going for speed
She’s all alone
In her time of need

You can't outrun your spoon. But knowing that it takes a mile of running to burn off that soda does put it in perspective ... makes you maybe rethink how much you eat.
No question on that. :)
I appreciate that and I congratulate people too when they’ve lost weight.
But from a PURE conservative perspective, we’re the one that GOT ourselves into this mess. (we heavy folks).
It just seems odd sometimes to get congratulated for getting yourself out of a bind you got yourself in.
Like we congratulate drug addicts and alcoholics for staying on the wagon for a long time.
Eaters, drug addict and alcoholics...we all are pretty much responsible for where we are/were at.
But I guess America loves redemption and seeing people get off the canvas and keep on fighting
Lol, you win. ;)
