He is demanding the records with the aim of pointing the finger at the school by showing it is influenced by donations
In the June 21 filing, Zangrillo's lawyers demanded a trove of records relating to how the private university flags some applicants as 'VIP' or 'special interest', and the percentage of applicants admitted within a year of their families donating $50,000 or more.
It also asks for records on the university president's involvement, a database of donors, and emails and text messages exchanged among university officials related to the admission of Zangrillos daughter.
The records 'could demonstrate that my clients conduct was in good faith and consistent with legitimate practices that have been engaged in by universities for decades,
The system of tagging applicants as 'special interest' is not formalized, according to attorneys for USC.
'USC has neither official procedures nor specific documents identifying all of the students who are tagged, who applied the tags, why the tags were applied or when they were applied,' they said.
'If you cant argue the facts, then you need someone else to point to. And whos better than a large corrupt university that has billions in its endowment?'

Most of these parents too a ‘Charitable Deduction’ on their tax returns. Lots of them paid quite a large sum to get their not so smart kids into colleges.
Pretty smart on the dad’s part. I’d be interested to see the results of that.
Let’s say your kid wants to go to one of these schools...
If you donate $500,000 to the football program, to the booster club, or to the endowment to get your kid in, it’s OK.
If you donate $500,000 to a third party to get your kid in, it’s not OK.
What am I missing?

And what of young Einstein that you just big-footed with $500K so Junior degree in basket weaving?
Now watch the case to be dropped : )
At least some of these payments in some cases were covered by bogus donations to charity. I smell mail fraud and/or wire fraud. Could be bribery of public employees at the colleges that are public. Just a few guesses...
We know that drunk basket weaver will end up as CEO at the age of 32 because of daddy, too.
