It Just Got Harder to Get Birth Control in America (More Barf)
NY TIMES ^ | AUG 19, 2019 | Staff

Posted on 08/22/2019 11:59:42 AM PDT by Morgana

This has been an ominous year for reproductive rights in America, with states including Georgia, Alabama and now Tennessee in a race to the bottom to pass the most extreme anti-abortion law in the nation.

But while those high-profile abortion bans make their way through the courts — they were designed to provoke legal challenges that could threaten Roe v. Wade — a more immediate threat to women’s health care has been brewing. The Trump administration has quietly been working to gut the Title X family planning program, which helps poor women afford birth control, cancer screenings and testing for H.I.V. and other sexually transmitted infections. On Monday, the administration’s efforts paid off: Planned Parenthood, which serves about 40 percent of Title X patients around the country, felt forced to withdraw from the program.

The nearly 50-year-old Title X program is an unsung hero of American public health. In 2017, Title X clinics served more than four million women, 42 percent of them uninsured, according to the federal Office of Population Affairs, which administers the program. The Guttmacher Institute, a research group that supports reproductive rights, found that Title X clinics helped prevent more than 822,000 unintended pregnancies in 2015. The institute estimates that for every dollar the federal government spends on family planning, it saves more than $7.

The Trump administration’s new Title X rule, announced in February, will lay waste to that progress. The rule bars facilities that receive Title X money from providing abortions, even with a separate source of money, as has been required by law for decades. It also prohibits clinics from referring patients for an abortion at a different facility — in other words, staff members would effectively have to pretend that abortion is not a legal medical option.

Personal Responsibility isn't any tougher now than it ever was.

This just means being IRRESPONSIBLE may require a second thought.

Once again, if you don’t support socialism then you hate women, poor people and unicorns. Why my money is paying for someone else’s pleasure is quit annoying. BTW, there’s numerous facilities that aren’t planned parenthood that Churches fund——but I guess only planned parenthood is the only place able to see women?

“The rule bars facilities that receive Title X money from providing abortions,.....”

Democrats-—But there’s no federal money used for abortions—

Me——then this “law” doesn’t matter...

Democrats——Trump hates women.

“This has been an ominous year for reproductive rights in America,“

No this is the year Blue states legalized killing full term babies including outside the womb.

It makes me angry that I sacrificed much and worked my way into heart surgery at 45 to pay for some slutty woman somewhere who can’t be bothered to not keep her ankles behind her skull for 5 minutes in a row

"reproductive rights in America"

What a euphemism for baby butchering.

Birth control is available in everything from gas station restrooms to grocery stores.

Heck you can find it at your local Stop and Rob.

Why should I have to pay for other people’s birth control? That’s like asking the taxpayers to pay for my golf.

Title X clinics helped prevent more than 822,000 unintended pregnancies in 2015

So they dispensed condoms, IUDs, and birth control pills? Wouldn’t it be hard to determine how many unintended pregnancies were prevented this way?

Or is “prevented unintended pregnancies” just another liberal euphemism for baby butchering?

I remember their argument being abortion is NOT birth control but for the health of the mother.

There’s a Walgreens or a CVS on literally every freakin’ corner on my drive home. How has it become so hard to acquire birth control?

“reproductive rights”

How does a “right” entail us paying you to exercise it?

No one buys me a gun or ammo, and that is a right that is actually written down, not made up.

Do they really not know that PP just refers women to other places for mammograms and other cancer screenings and testing for STDs? They do not do any of that at a PP clinic-all you get there is free birth control pills, condoms, etc-women can get those pills at any number of free/low cost clinics-condoms and other birth control devices are available at any drug store or supermarket-but abortion/infanticide is their biggest business-no way does taxpayer money need to pay for murder...

reproductive rights

Has the left ever given a serious explanation of what they think that term means?

Does it mean the "right" to reproduce? I didn't know anyone was prohibited from having babies.

The "right" to contraceptives? I didn't know anyone was prohibited from buying or using contraceptives.

How does "reproductive" correlate with NOT reproducing?

Maybe this is a teaching moment for stupid irresponsible women who love sex without consequences. Maybe more care will go into actually being more responsible with their reproductive system and real birth control.
