VW Bets Future on Electric People’s Car
WSJ ^ | 22 Aug 2019 | William Boston

The self-parking ID.3 shows how big-volume car makers are unleashing a new generation of technologically advanced vehicles that will allow them to wrestle back leadership of their industry from upstarts like Tesla Inc.

But in order for the industry’s huge bet on electrification to pay off, car makers will have to sell millions of the vehicles to mass-market consumers, not just an elite group of wealthy, environmentally conscious consumers.

Ultimately, it expects to build one million electric cars with this technology by 2025 and a total of 15 million before upgrading the vehicle’s core technology.

Bumper to bumper, the ID.3 is about as big as the Golf. But without an internal combustion engine hogging space up front, the interior is spacious, offering as much space inside the car as the Golf’s upscale cousin the Passat.

The ID.3 won’t be sold in the U.S. Instead, Volkswagen plans to begin production of the ID “Crozz”, an electric SUV using the same technology, at its plant in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Smart. EV can't compete in the free market.

It needs gov. intervention(commie green plan galore) and the future looks bleak for freedom and individualism, so VW is on to something.

Then the world we go from EV to camels.

With more than 27,000 reservations already registered,

With just a month left until the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, we are closer than ever to the debut of Volkswagen’s first mass-production all-electric vehicle, the ID.3. With more than 27,000 reservations already registered, it’s safe to say it’s already generating a lot of buzz, even before its official launch. We are eager to see it in full but for now, we’ll have to satisfy with a new batch of spy photos.

I actually coded a paywall penetration tester so that you can try various methods of getting past a paywall. One of them usually works unless it’s a hard paywall - these tricks are all client side.
https://codepen.io/bookmarklets/pen/MLxoJJ
Drag the ‘Paywall Penetration Tester’ to your bookmarks bar and play with it when you find a paywall.

Bookmarklets - Get around paywalls, Fancy text for FB, Legal hacking tricks made easy!, Codepen, April 23, 2019, posted by Bon Mots. It has worked really well for me. I’ll get a Twitter page with multiple Tweets and usually one links me to the full article. Kudos to Bon Mots for posting this solution back in April.
Here’s the direct link: Bookmarklets. Drag the “Paywall Killer” to your bookmark bar. I renamed mine simply “Paywall.”

I didn’t buy it for the mileage, and with 707hp, 8-speed, and unbelievable 0-60 and 1/4-mile times, I don’t much care about mpg anymore.

You, you live on a mountaintop, the driveway is long, steep, snow mud...

The published 0-60 times are better for the AWD Tesla Model 3.
And living on a mountain you regen all the way down!!!
And a much much lower TCO.

IIRC the rice rocket Suburu AWD is also faster.

That said unless you are a drag strip guy, here in DuPage the occasions to use more than a small fraction of the total performance are near ZERO.
I rode performance bikes in the 70s-80s and your car is decidedly faster and the top end/quarter was all but impossible to see. 0-60 is just a long holeshot.

And that is why I still have my beloved BMW Airhead.

“the driveway is long, steep, snow mud...”

I don’t, but i can raise/lower the airbagged/struts vehicle 4-6”, and easily go down the drive in 2nd.

I quickly catch Tesla, Porsche and Subaru at 40mph and pass both with ease.

With only 1,544 miles on it, I don’t “hot rod” it much at all; just a burst now and then. The nearby interstates are the only options; street racing at 69 isn’t an option for me.

A Dumb question.

Carriage Hill was a subdivision in Glenview, Il, where I spent the 1950-1960’s,any connection?

Years back I would have posted my close general location.
Recently I’ve been advised to simply tell everyone, I live behind the large oak in the Morton Arboretum.
