There was a time...not that long ago...when many Western countries had "automatic citizenship at birth" laws.But most of them had done away with them,requiring that in future in order for a child to obtain citizenship at birth his/her mother or father must be a citizen.
Even Ireland,a nation with a particularly strong history of immigration,did so just a few years ago.
