Wildlife experts from the southern state have confirmed at least nine are known to have developed problems moving about — but many more could be afflicted.

One bobcat is also known to have developed the same bizarre symptoms.

“Numerous diseases and possible causes have been ruled out. But a definitive cause has not yet been determined.

“We’re working with the US Fish and Wildlife Service and a wide array of experts from around the world to determine what is causing this condition.”

reminds me of my old Jack Russell’s disease.

Our oldest Alustrailain Shepard age 13, and I have an agreement.
We will take care of each other, but nothing extreme.

That was my first thought too. There are so many invasive species in Florida, who knows what crap they've brought with them?

But the "scientists" will probably blame global warming. :-))

I'd guess feline distemper. (See: panleukopenia)

Wonder if it’s caused by them eating fermented berries- when I was a child my grandmother would tell me stories about wild animals (foxes, birds, etc) eating berries that had been on the bushes too long. She said they would get as drunk as adults she knew.

I lived in Naples long ago and made many trips across Alligator Alley. Always drove the speed limit or less because all kinds of animals were crossing the road. We were very worried about the glades and these big cats then (1990s) and I’m sure the pesticides, invasive species, and poachers have increased greatly. Humans are among the invasive species, btw. building from Miami miles westward into what used to be a beautiful, and I thought protected, “sea of grass.”

My husband, a conservative to the core, was as worried as I was about the animals.

Why Backyard Birds Are Getting Drunk on Fermented Berries
‘Tis the hangover season for many birds—some of which are ending up in “drunk tanks.”

made many trips across

Crossing Alligator Alley on my motorcycle in a monsoon I see something long dark and moving in the distance.

I slow way down, hard to see with the rain on my glasses and windshield.
Hopping another vehicle will pass??

I can’t just sit? I have a sidearm available in the fairing. But do not want to take it out in the heavy rain just to clean, also I have heard that gators are a difficult shot!

With enough speed to avoid it, I proceeded on the opposite side.

When close enough to see it I could only laugh!

It was the tread of a large tire stretched lengthwise, one end off the road and blowing in the wind.

Coyotes are moving into Florida.
Growing up here on the Brevard coast I really got into the outdoors
I had never seen a coyote and dismissed it as hearsay.
Then one day about a 16 months ago I saw a coyote cross the road in front of me.
A canine vector was my first thought when I saw the headline.

In some ways I wish I hadn’t done the knee surgery but if he tore the other one it would have really been bad. If his health hadn’t been so good I would’t have done it but if he had any chance of living without pain I had to do it. It’s a common surgery in high energy dogs. I couldn’t tell the future so I did what I thought was best for him.

“They say” there aren’t mountain lions in Minnesota, also. “They” haven’t seen all the long tails on game cameras around here. We’ve got several of them.

And that is how it should be.

Sounds like a very recent event and they are just starting to look at it?
