FULL TITLE: Tennessee lawmaker grills Republican who claimed to remember being born while arguing for abortion law
A Democratic state lawmaker in Tennessee grilled a Republican man who claimed to remember his own birth during a hearing on legislation to ban abortions in the state once a fetuss heartbeat is detectable.
The footage was captured during a hearing held by the states General Assembly earlier this week, in which backers and opponents to the legislation were able to discuss their positions on the bill with state senators.
During the hearing, Hal Rounds, who was identified by a local Fox affiliate as a local Tea Party leader, told lawmakers that he had a conceptual memory of being born.
I have a conceptual memory of being born. That sounds ridiculous. I didnt come out of the womb and say, Oh my God, theres a fluorescent light and it was made by Slovenia. No, he continued.
In the womb, there was a sensation of compression and advancement against one side and another this sudden urgent pressure to burst out, and when I had this dream repeatedly through my youth and one day I said, You know, thats kind of like being born' and the dream stopped, alright?
I believe that the consciousness of the child is begun in the womb and when you kill a child, you are killing a person who is not just aware of nothing but of being a person, he continued.
Sen. Katrina Robinson (D) asked Rounds after his remarks about a certain point he tried to make.
You just said that life, Im sorry, heart functioning and brain functioning is life? she asked.

A. At 20 weeks of pregnancy
B. At 8 weeks of pregnancy
C. AT 17 weeks of Pregnancy
D. at birth
If you answered "D" you just flunked my class, get out you dunce.
FReepers who has the correct answer?
Katrina sounds like she is patronizing the religious and spiritual beliefs of perhaps billions of people. Because she is.
Around six weeks.
i am not a nurse... b 8 weeks, unless the patient doesn’t come in until the c 17th week of pregnancy, then it is first detectable then... unless, the mother misses that appointment and doesn’t come in until A. a the 20th week.
it all really depends on when she first comes in.
I can argue pro or con about the man’s dream about “conception” (actually more about birth). That is something that cannot be proved one way or the other.
So, if I were him, I would not have used it as part of his anti-abortion argument.
The heartbeat, now that’s a different matter.
I think the anti-abortion stance is advanced more, and in a better way, talking about heartbeats than about a child’s dreams.
B - and even before that.
The answer is 8 weeks, but you were very close.
She used the term fully functioning.
I know a lot of adults without fully functioning hearts and brain.
Especially brains.
I’m going by WebMD’s stats soooo you all may be correct.
Actually it’s between 4 1/2 to 6 1/2 (according to my medical class) - it depends on how it’s detected whether vaginal or sound imaging. It’s a life starting out. From non-life comes life. Go figger.
“.... who claimed to remember being born while arguing for...”
He did not claim to remembering being born.
“I said, You know, thats kind of like being born’ and the dream stopped, alright?
Connceptual short term memory (CSTM) is a mental buffer in which current stimuli and their associated concepts from long term memory (LTM) are represented briefly, allowing meaningful patterns or structures to be identified
This is the perfect description of Deja Va, an act by the subconscious mind in a reaction to a stimulus possibly from one of the senses, sight sound, taste...etc., that triggers a memory that may or may not have happened but enough of it matches a piece of a true memory.
So the article coming from the Hill, is another example of liberal attack politics using lies.

I can argue pro or con about the mans dream about conception (actually more about birth).
Dream or repressed memory, I think we all have them if
we could look deep enough. I certainly have experienced
those memories under the influence of mind altering
substances and they didn’t come from just the chemicals.
A fetal heartbeat may first be detected by a vaginal ultrasound as early as 5 1/2 to 6 weeks after gestation.
Yeah, if that is the test, then a lot of politicians are in trouble.
My daughter, Dharma, remembers being born and everything else that ever happened to her after that and everything she ever saw or heard. At a family reunion two aunts were arguing with my wife about what happened in a living room when Dharma was 3 months old and was also in that room. At age 30 she interrupted to say no that’s not what happened at all. She couldn’t say what was said because she did not understand the words yet but she knew who was standing and sitting where and on reflection and with the intervention of an uncle who had been there too, they all reflected and realized Dharma was right. After I saw that I never dispute her when she says something happened or how it went down. She is a spinster because of that memory and that she never learned when to keep her mouth shut. She got a lot of first dates but when the boyfriend raised a subject she came back with everything she knew or read about it and where she saw the information and ended with the poor boy not daring to say anything else. She is 49 now and still a pretty woman but gave up on getting a husband when she was 40. She has four big mean dogs now and her home is totally safe from intruders.
It’s fantasy to think one remembers one’s birth.
B
I have a memory of being laid on a rather cold paper sheet in a tray like thing a few feet from my mom. Whether or not it’s a real memory or something I imagined afterwards, I don’t know.
I also have a memory of trying to stand up straight underneath the ironing board. Pretty sure that one is real. In hindsight, probably wasn’t the best place to try to stand. But at least I didn’t bring the iron down on top of me. Or if I did, I don’t remember it.
There has been plenty of research into the clinical abuse of the concept of “repressed memories” in children. There are plenty of examples in the research that suggests some “repressed memories” factually never occurred but, due to their manufacture under relentless and biased analysts’ questioning, the child believed them to be true.
There are a number of cases of adults accused of mass abuse of a group of children, with recalled “repressed memories” used as part of the “evidence”, even when plenty of factual evidence - who was where and when - showed charge after charge could not have happened.
The “trans” child “believes” they are the opposite sex than their physical body.
A large accumulation of psychiatric and neurological clinical experience and research has shown our minds are capable of lying to us - capable of getting us to believe a lie.
Things remembered as things observed in a drug induced experience cannot be proven to be real any more than an hallucination someone with mental problems experiences while awake.
I can choose to believe any number of things, but in making an argument in a court or a legislature, I’d try to stick to facts. If we say in EVERY general way that when a person loses their heartbeat, they are generally considered dead, then surely the opposite - a heartbeat - can be considered as indication of life. No dreams needed to make that point.
B....
Oh, I’m with you on the heartbeat.
