An Ohio seventh grader who won $15,000 during the Huron County Fair livestock sale this month has reportedly donated all of his winnings to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
Western Reserve Schools in Cleveland announced Diesel Pippert's donation on Facebook over the weekend, calling him "a hero" for giving his large animal sale funds toward research for young children's illnesses.
"A young man lives amongst us who should be an example to us all," the Facebook post reads. "WR 7th grader Diesel Pippert donated all of his livestock premiums to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital today at the Huron County Fair large animal sale. His donation of $15,000 will help to find cures for young children and save lives. Diesel, you are a hero!"
The donation has earned Pippert widespread praise and national attention, with the Facebook post about his donation being shared thousands of times.
A fine young man.
Never had the opportunity to donate that much of my income to any charity.
Wonder what his tax bill will look like if he donates the whole thing.
Hearing stories like this brings new hope for the future.
Bump!
It’s different. :^)
That was a very nice thing to do, but couldn’t his family have used some of that money? I know it was his money.
I suspect at least one of his parents was thinking that items X, Y & maybe even Z could use repair or replacement, but they didn’t want to be The Bad Guy and pop his idealistic bubble.
Some children from comfortably middle-class or above families do not want for any material thing, and as such don’t have a full grasp on what money can do for anyone.
He’s just a teenager, so there is plenty of time to learn other lessons. Meanwhile, it’s great to think of others.

Doubt we’ll see this on the network news feeds, wrong demographic.
I agree with you. I hope there was some consultation with his family before this decision was made. If nothing else, the family should have been able to keep whatever expenses were made in connection with the animal for which he won the award.
Possibly they do not need the money and/or there is some family reason or sentiment for donating to St. Jude’s.
I expect his family is very proud of him, regardless.
He’s going to get requests for more money from St Jude’s for a hundred years! I gave them $40 a few years ago and they still keep asking me for more. Letter after letter after letter. My $40 didn’t cover their postage...
Nice story. God bless this child.
St. Jude’s is the patron Saint for lost causes.
So, perhaps there is a deep and serious reason the boy chose that organization to contribute to.
Wins? It sounds as if it was proceeds from selling livestock.
We do have some young Americans who do unselfish things. St Jude’s (and Shriners) are wonderful organizations. Thank you Diesel...
