Can I retire on $500K?
Soon to be ex-wife and I had the last of all our blow-outs. 25 years married, no kids, own the house outright, $1.7 MM (maybe 2), zero debt, 60-something.
Reached out to Cordell Cordell the only law firm I know of that will take care of the man side of things.
soon to be ex-wife does not work.
From reputable financial investment firms. All those neighborhood ‘financial advisors’ are looking to take 5% off the top for their fees and are ripoffs.
All good advice. $85k lives well in any country.
I’ll be 57 next month and all I can think about is how much I want to retire. I’ll semi-retire because I’d like earning a few bucks around the neighborhood painting houses and such.
I just hope you stayed clear of Las Vegas...
Linda: I understood the nest egg.
David: Oh, please. Do me a favor. Dont use the word. You may not use that word. Its off limits to you! Only those in this house who understand nest egg may use it! And dont use any part of it, either. Dont use nest. Dont use egg. Youre out in the forest you can point, The bird lives in a round stick. And and and you have things over easy with toast!
Make it about tree fiddy.
For most people..... if they begin drawing SS at age 62 instead of waiting until 65 (65 and 10 months in my case)...... they have to live to age 79 or 80 before waiting draws as much total SS money as starting early does.
That sounds a lot like me!
I know many retirees love to travel but I'm the opposite. My career took me all the places I want to go. When I retire, I'm going to a warm place where it doesn't snow half the year and I'm staying there. My kids and grandkids can come visit me. I just want to walk up and down a beach a couple times a day and catch up on my book reading.
Get and advisor, best investment you will make
Good luck to you. Have a great retirement!! A lot of people are scared to retire, but I had no problem with it. I had enough outside interests that have kept me busy. And I’m grateful that I didn’t have to work to survive. The only thing about growing old, is that time seems to by by even faster.
Every advisor I talk to wants to sell an annuity. Annuities are investing for dummies
Every advisor I talk to wants to sell an annuity
because the commissions are high on those.
You can’t be serious. That’s a fortune.
I used to laugh at the joke about whenever thinking of marriage, buy her a house and move on. I now know why it was sarcasm, not a joke.
Cat food can be quite expensive. I'd go with chicken thighs. You can get a family size pack for about $3. They taste a lot better too.
And instead of saltines, go with those big 5 pound bags of peanuts. Peanuts are more filling and pack way more nutrition.
So chicken and peanuts! Now that's a much tastier retirement. And throw those peanut shells to the floor. You are retired now. Who you trying to impress?
Yep
Who you trying to impress?
So we have apparently have millions of affluent (relatively speaking) people taking their money out of the country to retire abroad and we have millions of poor people clamoring to get into this country to go on welfare!
This is not going to end well if it keeps up!
10 lb bag of chicken quarters = 50 cents a pound.
Meow Mix canned cat food = $2.88 a pound.
The only thing I would ever pay someone to put together would be a gas grill.
I bought a Charbroil back in 1990. My first house. My first grill. It must have taken 4 hours to put together.
I still have a Vermont Castings grill I bought at Home Depot. I bought the floor model because it was already assembled. The salesman even discounted it because it was the floor model. Shoot, I would have paid him an extra $50 to put it together.
People have given you fairly good advise here so I am going to give you some emotional advise. Do nothing permanent for one year after every thing is finalized. Two would be better.
Don't buy a house, sailboat or remarry. Settle into being YOU solo. Get to know yourself and what you want. You have spent a long time being in a team, there are things you will automatically do because that was the way she wanted them. What you actually want can be very different.
Best of luck my FRiend.
