A sea of umbrellas swarmed Hong Kong streets on Aug. 18 as Hongkongers organized mass protests for the 11th consecutive week. What began as opposition to an extradition bill that would allow the Chinese regime to transfer individuals to face trial in mainland China has since expanded to include broader demands for police accountability and open democratic elections. Despite the pouring rain, scores of Hongkongers filled Victoria Park for a rally condemning police violence during previous demonstrations. The overwhelming turnout brought traffic in the dense city center to a standstill.

Well I wonder how the average Chinese person sees all this.
The idea of freedom can spread and so I think sooner than later all of this will be put down.
The original issue of extradition was taken off the table and now they are protesting for free elections.
They cant subdue 1.7 million people. Not without extreme measures, and China wont risk it. China will cave.
The only thing holding China back is the upcoming 70th Anniversary of the Revolution. They will get bloody after sufficient time has passed that point. My only surprise is that that have not cracked down years ago.
The commisars may blink at first but the restive military generals probably won’t want to hold back nor will the commisars be able to hold them back.
It was noted in an earlier thread that the protesters were waving American flags, praising the USA, and lamenting their inability to defend themselves i.e. no second ammendment. Such a far cry from so many supposed enlightened academics, snowflakes and self righteous liberals here. Progressives, look to the East!!

My fear will suddenly increase if the People’s Liberation Army starts moving in mechanized and infantry troop divisions into Guangdong Province in a big way. What will happen when we see trrop trains arriving at Guangzhou’s main railway station and the railyard next to it?
