Tesla’s Model 3 is cheaper on a total cost of ownership basis than competing luxury sedans from BMW and Mercedes, but a Toyota Camry? Model 3 is a state-of-the-art electric vehicle with a 5-star safety rating and a driving experience that’s gotten rave reviews from every auto mag under the sun. Is it possible that it’s even in the same price class as the entry-level, reliable-but-dull Camry?
the figures for an Audi A5, and the result is … embarrassing? Game-changing? Adjectives fail us. The cost per mile of the German sedan over 5 years comes out to $0.80, a little less than double that of Model 3.

Yes that is a rediculous calculation. Also only a moron pays retail MSRP which the Toyota calculation is based on. Take another 8 - 10% off. The Model 3 price is non negotiable. And the Elephant in the room is if you need warranty / crash repairs you not going to see your model 3 again for many weeks / months in most cases. Yes the Model 3 is the nicer of the two cars if you can get past one the least attractive front ends in recent memory.
My 2014 Camry is a pretty sweet car.
Smooth, quiet, roomy, classy looking, seems well engineered and even a real nice color....Cosmic Grey. (Really a dark metalic blueish color, the sun does tricks with the paint)
If i was 30 again maybe i’d like the Audi mentioned above but at 52 that Camry is just fine by me.
As a plus i bought it off-lease in brand new condition very low miles for half of what it retailed for.
Now that i think about it i would never have wanted to own a Audi that wasn’t fully warranted including a loaner car and overnight stay and towing compensation..
