The city of Chicago is being stung by a thriving, five-fingered threat: pickpockets.
...pickpocketing cases have increased 20% the past three years.
Restaurants this year have become a popular place for pocket-pickers. So far in 2019 there have been more than 100 pickpocketing incidents in restaurants.

The Loop, Michigan Ave. area and Gold Coast. No surprises there. That’s where the money is.

That is how we use to get “tax” money from the bootleggers when Mississippi was a dry state. The city needs the money.
And pickpockets in Germany are always looking for an easy mark.
Carry a fake wallet with garbage cards inside and fake dead cards.
Long ago I worked in Chicago housing projects, we were advised NOT to empty our wallets and keep singles and a five on top.
If it is empty they will be pissed and hurt you.
If they see something good they grab it and run.

A few summers ago I made the mistake of riding a jam-packed rush-hour metro in Kyiv. As I got off I checked my pockets and said, My passport is missing. A guy pointed to the gap between the train and platform. When the train pulled away I was excited to see it in the baggy that held it. It took an hour for the train frequency to drop enough for a guy to get it out with a long pole. I wasnt so excited when I saw over $100 was missing from the baggy.

Street fair We had to have popcorn.
Plaza with booths. Across the plaza about 30 cops sitting and sipping. My espouse and i get in line. We both worked corrections and had restraint training.
Two middle eastern types next to me and a little behind.
I reach for my wallet front right. My 110 pound wife has one of the guys in a wrist lock. Knife on the ground. the guy has look on his face like how the F did she do that. The other guy moving fast away thru the crowd. My wife let the guy go, follows his crime partner thru the crowd. No way to get thru the crowd to a cop in a short time. No yelling crowd loud and noisy.
The guy had knife and was going to cut my pocket. Nylon pants from Travelsmitn.com light can dry in two hours. Moral of the story, marry a parole agent with 17 years in the system.
Only such incident in 5 long trips out of the US. I wear a travel pouch around my neck and under my shirt. She wears a back pack in the front.
These days nobody carries any cash, it is all cards. Long ago people carried cash, look around you at most folks these days at the checkout line. One in ten pays with cash.
