I wish we did a much better job pushing vocational training for people who really should not be on a college path. We would have better skilled labor earlier in the process.

Amen. I am dreaming, but disolving the Fed Department of Education and turning over ALL schools back to the locals and States would be a good first step. Federal control is a huge part of the problem with schools today, at all levels.

I am talking to you, Common Core. Is that still in our schools or did the locals finally get rid of that abomination?

I found that you needed to be there in the classroom for the engineering classes.

Absolutely correct. The college push has been going on for a LONG time. I grew up in a farming community, and going to college was pushed hard on all us kids. I didn’t want to go, so I joined the national guard and then the Army. I really wish we had some sort of trade program in high school. I wasn’t interested in becoming a farmer either, although I miss that stuff sometimes.

College might make sense for some. But in today’s world everyone thinks it’s appropriate for all, even the diversity introspection courses and basket weaving - ridiculous.

This college scam survives basically for one reason:

They have managed to propagandize the vast majority of employers to set a Bachelors Degree as the minimum entry bar for most jobs.

Make that go away and tuitions will start dropping like a rock.

But all people can do today is bash college, as if it has NO value.

College has value for some fields. Engineering, Law, Medical, or people with rich parents who go into philosophy. Every other major is pretty useless, and definitely not worth the value.
