I didn't give the accident a lot of thought until Waltrip quietly said "I hope Dale is alright." Until then, I hadn't appreciated how serious the accident truly was. It was evident that he knew that something bad had happened.
On Flightaware it looks like all the other aircraft today were landing in the opposite direction.
Perhaps the Earnhardt plane was landing downwind.
