It’s still hot Orville RedenbockerSki.
Anthony wished them into the cornfield.
Now that Goolag’s search algorithms are known to be biased.
Can anyone determine the number acres or hectares of corn grown in the region near Moscow, Russia?
My guess is the reporter does not know the difference between a corn field and a potato patch.
The DIFFERENCE is that Russians understand that when the power steering goes out, the vehicle (airplane in this case) is STILL controllable.
We’re digital now, so we never have to worry about failures of these types and we just throw in the towel and give up (although thankfully some analog pilots, like Sully, were still around who knew better).
That looks like a SERIOUSLY HEALTHY corn crop. I guess the Leftist anti-Russian State Department isn’t doing too well in trying to bring Putin down.
IIRC, it was Nikita Khrushchev who vigorously promoted corn as a crop for the U.S.S.R. when he became the Soviet Premier. As the former Minister of Agriculture, he had been immensely impressed with our cornfields and thought they could be replicated the Soviet Union. Unfortunately, the program became a disaster in execution, and it was one of the reasons Khrushchev was removed.

In European usage, corn means grain, while what we call corn is referred to as maize.
Thanks.
Appreciate the clarification.
Out here in Kansas wheat, corn and milo are all the rage. We’ve turned the plains into mono-crop wastelands and till the soil so its nice a fluffy. Probly not one of the worst places to crash a jumbo jet if you can keep it flattened out.
Freaky how everything drags out and impact is a lot more involved and drawn out than expected. What? No instantaneous fireball?
....and the Russians act like its their 3rd crash landing this week.
Landing a fully loaded and fueled jet anywhere other than on a runway and not killing anyone is a miracle. Good job flying!!
I believe he landed with wheels up.
Pretty hard to revive it after that.
Pilot will be hailed a hero as he should as he did not lose a soul in a very difficult situation.
GOD bless him.

Not always soft enough.
And they had a LOT LESS to work with.

Haynes later identified three factors relating to the time of day that increased the survival rate:
The accident occurred during daylight hours in good weather;
The accident occurred as a shift change was occurring at both a regional trauma center and a regional burn center in Sioux City, allowing for more medical personnel to treat the injured;
The accident occurred when the Iowa Air National Guard was on duty at Sioux Gateway Airport, allowing for 285 trained personnel to assist with triage and evacuation of the injured.
“Had any of those things not been there,” Haynes said, “I’m sure the fatality rate would have been a lot higher.”[29]
Haynes also credited Crew Resource Management as being one of the factors that saved his own life, and many others.
That pilot better watch out, PETA will be all over his ass for killing those birds!
Comrade Yusupov will be richly rewarded with new, clean underwear!
we were always taught to forget about trying to turn back to the airfield after something like this. Unless you’ve got about 5000 feet of empty air underneath you. And this was in a 172.
You’ll lose too much altitude in the turn and end up short of the field.
I think dfwgator up in #22 has it just about right?
I envy the Russians for being almost one people and not on the brink of civil war and for nationalism being a good thing etc.
