A praying mantis ensured there were no flies on commuters as it hopped aboard a New York Subway train Tuesday and caused quite a stir.
City Councilman Keith Powers was traveling Uptown on the 6 train, when another rider told him that his head was dangerously close to the long-legged insect.
He snapped a picture of the mantis as it clung onto the metal inner frame of the subway cart and stared at passengers.
Captured in its synonymous 'praying pose,' the bug seemed unfazed by worried people around it all eyeing up its sizable green and brown torso and black eyes.

“The Deadly Mantis”
One of my favorite old 50s Sci-Fi flicks!!!!
Thanks for the memory. :^)
I suppose synonymous sounds a little but not quite like eponymous, which would make the Daily Mail homonymphobes.
Why is that scary?
One of the coolest - and most vicious - insects.
They just stare at you as if saying “Wonder how you’d taste if you were my size...”
“I bought their eggs to put in our garden.”
I brought the egg casing into our farmhouse where it hatched out. Caught hell from mom as it was not in a jar.
“Is praying allowed?”
They only pray before meals so they can eat you with good conscience.
Maybe hes praying over that sh!thole city.
“Captured in its synonymous ‘praying pose”
Where are the editors (not to mention stupid reporters)? Ya don’t suppose that should say eponymous do ya?
My first thought was, they need to get out of the city a few times a year. I don’t see mantis often enough, so it’s still “ooh neat”, but still... Same thing with stick bugs.
I was thinking the same thing.
Epstein...? No news.
Silent Coup...? Silence.
Hillary free....? No outrage.
Bug on subway... WRITE IT UP!
Giant possum draws crowds in Philly's Nicetown section
Not welcome on our property. They bite around the neck of hummingbirds just to kill them. I either kill or relocate praying mantises here.
Seems like the mantis is getting plenty of food - other insects - in clean ole NYC. /sarc
I moved to KY about 8 years ago. I’ve only seen a couple of those. One on my front steps, and the other on the back of a chair in my company’s lobby in downtown Louisville. Yeah, they are huge.
Come down to Florida. Gigantic bugs are the norm here.
Only in New York.....
Is praying allowed?
