Heres a story thatll haunt you into your golden years. Doctors say their elderly patient endured a nightmarish week of his throat bleeding out and weeks more of surgeries and hospital care, all because surgeons had forgotten to remove his denturesdentures that then became lodged in his throat.
By the time he visited the emergency room six days after the surgery, he couldnt even eat solid food.
when a new set of doctors actually looked inside the mans throat, after the man again complained about his symptoms, they quickly spotted something lodged across his larynx
Keeping peoples dentures in is thought to make it easier for anesthesia to be given to them through a bag-mask, but they should obviously be taken out immediately before any intubation starts, the report noted.

Or maybe not?
Could have been worse, he could be eating kidney pie with his butt.
In the rain.
Socialized medicine huh?
This is insane and terrible negligence.
They are always supposed to ask you about dentures or anything removable in your mouth that can become loose during surgery and it can even kill you.
What a complete hairy nightmare! I don’t know if patients are allowed to sue their dental surgeons, but he probably has a good case. That man’s throat will probably be prone to hemorrhage and pain for the rest of his life.
Geez. They ALWAYS ask you if you have dentures, or any removable bridges in your mouth before you have surgery, or any medical procedure that requires you to have anesthesia. At least they have prior to all my surgeries and procedures. I don’t have any anyway, but at least they ask.
That’s why they’re supposed to ask you if you have dental implants and dentures, the same way they ask about jewelry, surgical implants, and glass eyes.
Man, the ineptitude..
There is a reason anesthesia docs ask if you have ANYTHING that is removable in your mouth before surgery is conducted!
That mans throat will probably be prone to hemorrhage and pain for the rest of his life.
Not to worry!
This is from England, they have FREE health care!!!
Socialized medicine huh?
A friend took a transfer to England, counting the savings for FREE health care, until he settled in.
His new mates told him it would be nuts to depend only on the NHS!
He purchased private insurance.
They ALWAYS ask you if you have dentures, or any removable bridges in your mouth before you have surgery.
That has been my experience.
I had a procedure yesterday requiring anesthesia, and one of the questions during the prep was “are you wearing dentures?” He also looked into my mouth and throat, presumably for any potential obstructions.
