Britain: Mocking suspect's hairstyle could get you prosecuted, police warn

Police have warned social media users they could face arrest if they "troll" a wanted drug dealer by mocking his distinctive hairstyle.

An online appeal to catch the criminal has resulted in tens of thousands of people posting joke comments.

Jermaine Taylor, 21, is wanted for breaching his licence conditions after being released from prison in December 2018.

Gwent Police launched the social media appeal to find the convicted drug dealer, but it backfired when people began making jokes about his hairstyle, with one saying it had been "pushed back more times than Brexit".

The picture shows Taylor with a large, bald forehead and two tufts of hair sticking up.

Twitter users joked: "His forehead is bigger than his future," and "that hairline goes further back than Woolworths".

Another quipped: "Looks like his hairline is on the run too."

The large number of comments prompted Gwent Police to warn users that posting abusive material could be against the law.

I recently watched the UK version of "Who Do You Think You Are." A father and son, Jack and Michael Whitehall, who are performers on UK TV went searching for their heritage, and discovered that their ancestor in the 19th century belonged to a Conservative group connected to the Tory party. He was also a solicitor. In 1832, the Great Reform Act was passed, and although it provided inclusion for some lower level landowners, it disenfranchised most others who were simple working class people. This group of workers formed their own alliance, and called themselves The Chartists. Besides fair wages, they were demanding that they be given the right to vote. A large part of the movement came from Wales, but represented all workers in England, Ireland, and Scotland. They were seen as troublemakers in London, and anyone from the group caught making inflammatory, and traitorous statements against the government, and the Queen were hunted down, and arrested on sight. The Whitehall's ancestor was charged with finding these troublemakers, and arresting them.

What struck me while watching this part of the program was that what freedom of speech rights were eventually won in the UK, have now been taken away again since you can't make any online comments against Islam, or other topics, without being threatened with arrest and incarceration. It's like the country has done a complete 180 degree turn, and what was against the law in the 19th century, is now again criminal in the 21st Century. History repeating itself.

Not sure when my ancestors came to America, but my Grandfather once told me he was from the blood line of William Wallace. As a teenager, I had no clue who that was. Don't think William had children, so he was probably talking about his brothers, John and Malcom II or the father of all 3.

My father said I'm a mix of Scots, English, and some German. My surname is Scottish and we have a Coat of Arms. Guess that makes me a racist white supremacist. And no, I wasn't a "privileged white". I left by broken home at 16 and worked my way up until joining the Navy. Oops, too much info.

That usually elicits at the very least a chuckle and sometimes a belly laugh. ;-)

Note that these are police who covered up for Muslim rape gangs for years. Accused teen girls of being prostitutes, punished female cops and social workers who complained, arrested fathers who tried to rescue daughters, tried to silence rape victims with illegitimate children as proof. Potentially 200,000 rape victims across the country for 30+ years ...

Yes, I believe they’d threaten people for mocking a Muslim suspect’s haircut. They harassed Muslim rape gang victims, in one case, prosecuting the 15 year old who wouldn’t shut up for supposedly luring in a 13 year old friend.

Yup, a male white supremacist Nazi with a white privilege - that's me. All I need is a swastika armband and a white hood and I'm in the club. I should also have a hammer and cycle patch on my hood along with a MAGA hat at the top and a Che Quevara t-shirt. Add a NRA patch somewhere and imagine the confusion at a protest. Ha!!!

I’m currently reading “The Difference Engine” by William Gibson (and some co-author I forget at the moment). A few of the characters in this alternate history novel have connections with the Chartists, but unlike a lot of characters in the book, who are based on real historical people, these characters are based on characters from a novel that Benjamin Disraeli wrote about the Chartists back in the 19th century. I just stumbled on that fact as I was looking up different people mentioned in the novel to see how the version Gibson writes about differed from the real people, and noticed that a couple of names were not coming up with actual biographies, but only links to Disraeli’s novel “Sybil”.

Some of my family did one of those DNA genealogy things.

So now when anyone asks what bloodline we are I reply Beaker. :-)

Thanks for sharing that information. The organization the Whitehall's ancestor was a member of was the "True Blue Benefit Society."

The first half of the story is about the family on Jack's grandfather's side. He's known as REB. The bottom half of the story is about the Tory ancestor, and The Chartists from REB's wife's side of the family. It was a part of British history I knew nothing about.
