The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!
MANGO RELISH

I’ve had good luck with Lofthouse.
He had a short season moschata a couple years ago that grew, bloomed and set squash (1.5lb) in 58 days at my house.
He hasn’t offered it again (that I’ve seen, haven’t been there this year so far)
meant to add, ‘grew, bloomed, set squash and ripened’
Vigorous concurral! It’s light, yet has all the flavor of traditional lasagna.
Thanks. I hadn’t read the entire thread before I posted.
Beautiful!
Nice! What was the flavor like? And did you test how well it keeps?
Don’t really know about the flavor, used it in a pie. Pie was good, couldn’t tell the difference between that and my big butternuts.
Didn’t keep them long enough to tell how long they kept :)
Roasting the zucchini before assembling intensifies the flavor....getting the carmelization is a chef’s secret.
Wow, what an awesome garden!
Oh, Gawd! Don’t give him ANY help, LOL!
Wow! People do a nice job with their display stands and all. Makes you want to buy it all. :)
I (briefly) considered doing a farm market once I moved out here to more land, but it’s so much work - especially if it would just be me doing it.
I have a number of friends that market - they do a good business. I think if I was going that route it would be a CSA, but those are also time consuming and risky.
Happy Sunday!
I think what we both need is sort of a co-op stand. Find somebody who likes the prepping and the selling part, and pool together the produce from several small farms. That way those who don’t want to deal with it but still want to sell, can just stick to the growing side.
I like that idea! You organize it and tell me what I need to grow, LOL!
When I had my farm on M, I had an Honor Stand and sold seedlings, eggs, produce, raspberries, apples, pesto, pickles, pumpkins in the fall, etc. No one ever ripped me off.
Where I live now, (at the end of a dead-end road that doesn’t even look like a road) I have no passing traffic, which also has it’s benefits. :)
I am growing Glads in ABUNDANCE this season. I used to buy buckets full of them from a lady that had a 1-acre plot out by the airport and all she grew was Glads. This was in the early 80’s, and she was getting $1 a stem for them.
I wonder what the turn-over rate is for Glads, if you can save them for the next season if they have no leaf mass to put energy back down into the corm. They’re certainly cheap enough to buy in bulk.
Well how handy is THAT? Thanks! Here are my two faves for weather-watching:

I start here with 'Copycat V-8 Juice Recipe' and if I want to make it into Bloody Mary Mix, I add 2 seeded, chopped jalapeno peppers to the mix, then add 1 Tbsp. grated Horseradish on that second cook-down. If it's not as thick as I like, I add 1 small can of Tomato Paste. The recipe below only makes 1 Quart jar, but you can double or triple it, depending upon how many tomatoes you have to use up.
