Thanks so much for the fulsome response. Man’s long relationship with dogs — and theirs with us — is endlessly fascinating. Hunting dogs, guide dogs, rescue dogs, even lapdogs. Truly remarkable.
Thank you so much! I am definitely trying your recipe which sounds delicious!
Your dogs are beautiful! Just got home & our cat is on my chest purring.
Here in Eastern MA it has been excellent weather for gardens, an answered prayer, with heavy (heavenly) rain about once a week, and lots of sun otherwise.
But our harvesting began about the beginning of the month, and has only seen a few dozen ripe toms, and thank God for them.
Plants are taller than they were last years at this time, with about 5 different strains. ">
But None are producing near as much fruit per size as a couple of my Guatemalan neighbor plants are. And I find out what kind of toms they are, Fourth of July tomatoes, which is said to be the earliest variety of non-cherry type tomatoes which might be ripe by the Fourth of July, in a typical climate.
In a week's time he's doubled in size - AGAIN!

Looking good! Things are slow to ripen here in SW Wisconsin, too - but we’ve had that conversation before, LOL!
Wished I had a couple those. But, I don’t hunt anymore, and it would be a crime not to “hunt” them.
They definitely know what their job in life is!
When Beau takes Yakama out to hunt racoon, the REST of them put up a fuss, that’s for sure. ;)
LOL!!! I’ll bet..
They’re beautiful! Are you going to tell us how you use them?
When we could still garden, I always substituted mandolined zucchini for pasta in our “lasagna” and it was heavenly!
They’re gorgeous! That Oneida has a sense of humor, no?
Whoa!
“But, Honey, 25 plants on a 5 foot diameter mound, 3 feet high, IS just one hill!”
See post 39.
Bujt can you believe how healthy and fruitful those Fourth of July toms are, yet being in a very small (about 2.5 gal.) pot? The rest are thriving also. They only get about 5 hours of sun tops. Must have excellent soil, plus prayers!
I have completed making my ENTIRE (not that big but still) the ENTIRE garden and greenhouse and my rose, raspberry and blueberry patches gravity feed drip irrigation...
Just in time for me to leave for a week of.vacation in Eastern WA.
Does anyone on this thread have seeds, or know of a source for seeds, for a squash variety called “Bigger Better Butternut”?
Its one of the varieties developed by Carol Deppe. She hasn’t been fulfilling orders for 2 years now, even though she’s been taking orders and updating her website every year. I’ve found alternate sources for most of the varieties she sells, but this one has been stumping me.
She has made some amazing varieties over the years. I’m hoping to get a list of sources together so her fans can still grow them.
Wow.
I thought I was the only one.
I sent an order for $25 2 years ago. Got my seeds/etc everything seemed hunky dory. Sent her $50 last year got nothing. Even replied to the email on her site telling you to let her know what you ordered & didn’t get and she’d send that right out. No luck.
Didn’t order from her this year...because.
Now I’m wondering.
Have you tried Joseph Lofthouse?
Once you make it there’s no going back to noodles.
