The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!
Seems like bathing the chicken would cause feathers to get messed up.
Don’t feathers have some sort of protective coating of oil or something?
All that shampoo can’t be good for them either.
Oh well, to each their own.

Personally, I'd think it would just make them a Hawk Magnet, but that's just me. Some days I HATE that I live in a world that this is an actual, 'thing'!
For some reason the chicken lady made me think of Liberace.
If Liberace was a chicken it would be hers.
Poor thing getting shampooed all the time and running around in panties...
Nice recipe, thanks. I like to have some chopped red pepper in mine, the more crunch the better. BTW my homemade BBQ sauce came to me out of necessity about 30 years ago. Had none in the cupboard. Started with ketchup, added some molasses, a little honey, a little soy, and my salsa. Chunky BBQ sauce!
Yeah, the times I did it I made sure to use either just water, or a pet-safe soap.
And they needed to be washed for their own health both times, it wasn’t just a whim. One I thought was egg-bound but I couldn’t tell for sure because her backside was so badly matted, and the other had a clump of poo that kept getting bigger until it looked like she was carrying a softball behind her.
Both actually seemed relieved to be clean.
Not a chance!!!! My chickens are working girls, they don’t do “girly” :p
Oh yeah, I knew you had to have a good reason.
:)
Making this today, since it’s cooler and I was inspired by a post a few pages back. Man, I really need my own laying hens again. Time to start nagging, LOL!
Patience! Roofing and porch repair first, house painting, new HVAC system - (goes in this weekend!) additional raised beds around the greenhouse, rain barrel, new gutter to said rain barrel; hens are pretty far down the list for now...
Where was I? Oh, yeah:

Crunchy Chicken Wrap
Delicious with La Banderita low carb tortillas. They actually have some flavor. In a bowl mix up some diced leftover chicken breast, it doesn't take much. This was a marinated (mostly soy based) and grilled one.
Add some thin sliced sweet onion, one sweet banana pepper sliced thin, one diced cherry tomato, some small cubes of a good jarlsberg cheese, mix in bowl. Sprinkle with a good shredded parmesan. I used what I had on hand. Stir again and put in the tortilla skin. Put on some of the cilantro lime sauce I found at Costco, not too heavy. Fold up the tortilla from both sides, pressing together tight is good. I let sit a few minutes. I could eat one every day.
Now you’ve done it.
I’m going to look in my pantry to see what sort of approximations of that I can come up with.
That sauce really makes it for me. I bought a 2 bottle pack at Costco right around the time we were talking about zucchini noodles. I used some in a sauce for the with an avocado added to the blender. It was really good on the zucchini noodles. Also added some pine nuts and a couple other things I can’t remember now. LOL
You’ve got some great ideas.
I got a zucchini noodle maker, just need to remember to plant some today. Time for fall garden here.
I actually remembered to order my garlic this year before they were all sold out!
I need to step away from the keyboard though, when I get hungry I can be counted on to cheat like mad LOL. We’re doing the low carb/keto thing as always but doggone it, carbs just taste good.
I’ll be back later, after I’ve eaten something ‘on plan’. don’t have any lowcarb tortillas right now and it’s too easy to make the bad ones LOL.
I have all kinds of weeds growing around my house and two days ago I found one in bloom against my backporch.
When I drove around my neighborhood I saw several of these weeds that people deliberately planted,
It turns out to be a white "Rose of Sharon".
I like it and will let it spread. One of he more attractive weeds. - Tom
Those are a lovely shrub!
