A case out of South Carolina is highlighting the fact once again the drug-testing kits used by local police officers can be wildly inaccurate. On Thursday, drug charges were dropped against Shai Werts, Georgia Southern University's starting quarterback, after he and his attorneys battled against accusations from Saluda County police earlier this summer that a white substance found on the hood of his car was cocaine. It turns out, it was bird crap.
Werts was traveling after 9:00 pm in early July when police pulled him over speeding. Since it was late at night and on a dark country road, he phoned 911 to confirm they were indeed police officers.
"Im not going to pull over in the dark where no one around can see," Wertz can be heard saying on the dashcam video. "You know whats been going on in the world. No offense to you, but I just didnt feel comfortable, officer."
Police then question him about what's on the hood of the car. From the moment he was pulled over earlier this summer, Werts insisted that the powdery looking object on the hood of his car was drugs, rather it was bird poop.
via Washington Post:
Thats bird s. I swear to God, Werts, 21, told the officer, in an exchange caught on a dashcam. Can I tell you something? Thats bird s.
The Saluda County Sheriffs officer was incredulous. It looks nothing like bird poop, man, he said. We know what bird poop looks like.
An instant drug test said it was indeed cocaine, and Wertz was subsequently arrested.
"I have no reason to lie to you about cocaine," he said as he was being placed in handcuffs. "I play football, so I dont do cocaine."
"Thats a lotta bird poop," the officer retorted.
But, after a further test was done on the "cocaine" authorities determined that Werts was telling the truth.
"I was informed that the test did come back and that there was no controlled substance found, Al Eargle, a Saluda County prosecutor, told media Thursday.
Another “genius” officer. They are becoming far too common. They really should consider removing the IQ limit cap for eligibility.
That doesn't say what the writer wanted it to say, I'm guessing.
So, if I want to frame someone, all I have do is put some Cocaine on the hood of their Car?
Not INSIDE their Car, on the hood.
Got it.
And the police keep on making themselves look like idiots.
I sure wouldn't be laughing if some cop tried to jail me for bird poop on the hood of my car.
This is the same kind of “science” used in the “global warming” hoax.
So you would just ignore the advice from the Sheriff and other law enforcement officials here in the Houston area that tells you, especially if you’re a woman, but anyone really, to either keep driving until you’re in a lighted public area, OR call 911 to be sure it’s a real officer.
We’re told the officer will understand.
Moron officer has poo on his face.
How can any officer prove that whatever might be on the outside of someone’s car was put there by the owner?
Great minds or just an obvious reply.
Our neighbors have a big tree in tehir yard, right near our driveway. Our car gets assaulted by bird droppings all the time.
Who the heck puts cocaine on top of the car???
[[I wish the police would do better.]]
They DO 99.999% of the time- and they do so under heinously dangerous situations too- many times-
One would think any cocaine powder would have blown off the hood of the car.
I also find it hard to believe bird poop can test positive for cocaine unless the bird was a crack head and digested crack rocks at some point.......
Wonder if the cop took a sample and rubbed it on his gums, ya know, like in the movies.
You know what bird poops looks like and you say this isn't? Then why don't you take the "cocaine taste test".
It's unconscionable that these tests are still in use.
It's unconscionable that these tests are still in use.
Either all that, or they really need him to play ball this Fall.
