Capitalizing on this year's renewed interest in the worst nuclear accident in history, booze makers have introduced Atomik, the world's first vodka made from distilled grains from Chernobyl's exclusion zone.
Atomik may sound misguided at first, but the distillers have good intentions. Gennady Laptev, a scientist at the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Institute and a cofounder of the Chernobyl Spirit Company, says making use of the abandoned land at the disaster site will aid in reviving the economy for struggling cities in the surrounding area.

There has to be some funny "In Russia..." one liners for this. Although technically the ingredients are from Ukraine.

It would be the preferred alcoholic beverage for those who desire only a little glow.

I tried, to no avail, to find a short clip of Steve Martin saying, ‘By the way, I’m radioactive’. (holds out hand) Shake!

Since vodka primarily carbon , hydrogen and oxygen compounds, elements that have few radioactive isotopes the vodka should be no more radioactive than any other vodka.
But since distilling concentrates impurities in the boiling kettle the mash left in the kettle could be very radioactive and need special handling

Ukrainian capitalists. Saw the market, the renewed interest and tourism...and they are literally capitalizing on the opportunity. I applaud their insight and audacity, but I’m still not going to try their vodka. I’m more of a whiskey guy anyway.
