How does a boss manage a worker who believes their feelings trump reality, right down to the way she "feels" about her misspelled words?
Gently. And probably badly, even though that's no fault of the boss in question.
Carol Blymire -- a "communications and public policy executive, branding consultant, professor, writer" -- took to Twitter on Friday to tell the story she overheard of a young writer, probably "in her late 20s," going over edits with her boss.
What issue caused mentor and student such agitation and aggravation? Had the boss been needlessly cruel? Had the young writer pushed some radical agenda, and was refusing to tamp it down a bit? Hardly. They were arguing over how to spell "hamster." You know, the little furry rodents some people keep in one of those winding Habitrail cages.
Can you guess what happened next? The young woman, according to Blymire, "insists she doesnt need to look it up because its FINE to spell it with a P because thats HOW SHE WANTED TO SPELL IT."

she’s unemployed now write?
I had classmates like this who were mollycoddled by parents and teachers. It was shameful, really.
I hate to say it, but people like that are not salvageable. Meaning that they’ll never function as proper adults, and are stuck with having the psychological and emotional health of a pre-pubescent schoolchild. They are future Darwin Award winners, to say the least.
Her parents should be ashamed of themselves for raising someone so inept.
shes unemployed now write?
Lol. If so, then shes not (being paid to) write :-)
There is a "p" in dumpster.
Simple. The boss fires the worthless employee.
Phunny.
His incredulous look comes naturally to him.

“How does a boss manage a worker who believes their feelings trump reality, right down to the way she “feels” about her misspelled words?”
You don’t. You fire the non-hacker.
Obviously the unwoke boss should be fired for microaggressing this young woman, but first she should take her to a quiet room safe space and make her some avocado toast and cocoa to restore her balance after such severe trauma.
In my line of work it doesn’t matter how you feel about the equations and algorithms. You can have a good day, a bad day, like ‘em love ‘em even hate them for their twisted complexity or brutal simplicity. Physics takes no notice of us. Someone getting upset that their feelings weren’t taken into consideration? Now that’s funny.
Oh, hampsterdance.com!
Years ago, I worked for an engineering firm.
My boss asked me if I would review/markup a one-line electrical load diagram that one of the new young engineers had come up with. The little fella came up to my office almost shaking in his shoes. I looked at it and the load balance was wrong so I red-lined in the changes to make it acceptable. As I was doing so, his little chin began to quiver, his little blue eyes begin to water and I could see he was deeply upset. I said, “Look, just go make these few changes and bring it back up to me and no one needs to know the difference.”
About 5 minutes later, my boss calls me wanting to know what ta heck I did to him because he was in his office balling his eyes out and ready to resign. I told the boss what went down. I think the little fella lasted about a week before he finally just quit. His nerves just couldn’t take any correction, rejection or criticism.
8 out of 10 of the new hires couldn’t pass a simple drug test. The others were like this snowflake described above.
No wonder the new airplanes are crashing...
Friend, think about this:
What would have happened if the boss had been male?
