My imaginary 4 year old just came to me and said,
Mommy, if gun restrictions stop gun violence, why is the gun crime rate in Chicago so high?
I honestly have no idea how to respond.
Perfectly stated, yet totally false.
After the McDonald v. City of Chicago Supreme Court ruling in 2010 (that overturned Chicago's ban on handguns,) and the 7th Circuit ruling in Moore v. Madigan (which forced Illinois to adopt a must issue concealed carry licensing scheme,) Chicago's gun laws are no more strict than most of the rest of the country.
Was your imaginary four-year-old conceived in a wet-dream?
-—Just asking for a friend
I think it’s sarcasm
Remember when Trump got elected and all the leftist moms were worrying about how they would explain Trump to their children? Some even came out and said their young child had asked them if the world was going to end because - Trump. Some questions were obviously not something their young children would even think of, unless brainwashed.
Legal immigrants children asking; “Are we going to be deported?”
etc
What changed? Was it in the news? Did all the immigrants leave?
Prostitution is illegal and the pimps flourish.
When gambling was illegal, the bookies flourished.
When alcohol was illegal, the bootleggers flourished.
Drugs are and have been illegal and the drug dealers flourish.
If guns are made illegal, the arms dealers will flourish even more.
Ah, I see now. In that case, the tweet is pretty funny.
There is a simple answer that most Conservatives don’t want to hear.
Yes, it is true that gun regulations IN CHICAGO have not had an impact on gun related violence in Chicago. That is because it is easy to illegally obtain guns in or more so outside of Chicago, as well as to legally obtain guns under more relaxed gun laws outside of Chicago, but not so far away from Chicago.
Might more stringent guns laws in neighboring Indiana for instance make for fewer guns entering the violent social landscape of Chicago? Theory can only say “maybe” but the theory cannot be tested.
And if Indiana did that, would the demand for guns from Chicago just go further afield to get them. That also is very possible.
I think just like “illegal” drugs, gun violence is a problem of “cleaning up” the people willing to commit gun violence, more than “cleaning up” the guns, just as cleaning up illegal drugs will require “cleaning up” the addicts and from them the demand for the illegal drugs. BOTH of those things are social problems that require multi-pronged approaches and NEVER make progress without masses of perpetrators changing their lives, and with that change changing their hearts.
Some years ago, when my visiting granddaughter was 10, she saw me cleaning my Ruger 10/22.
“Ooh ooh , a GUN!” she exclaimed.
I laid the gun on the floor and told her “Let’s watch and see how long it takes before it gets up and shoots someone”.
“That’s silly, grampa, it’s not alive.”
Out of the mouths of babes.
Because people bring in the Guns from the surrounding Communities silly.
You know, the Communities who don’t have near the so called Gun Violence that Chicago has.
Wait, what? Never mind.
Red flag law will also have them take your car keys. Why guns and not people mowing down others or slashing
This is the most stupid knee jerker legislation yet
