Arlington Police Officer Shoots, Kills Woman While Firing Gun At Loose Dog
CBS NEWS ^ | AUG 2, 2019 | CBS

ARLINGTON, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – An Arlington Police officer shot and killed a woman at Cantor and Collins in North Arlington around 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

He was apparently shooting at a loose dog coming towards him, when the woman lying in the grass was struck.

The officer was not hurt.

Arlington police officers, the Arlington Fire Department and EMS were dispatched to a welfare check in which the caller reported that a woman was passed out in a grassy area near Cantor Drive and N. Collins Street.

As the officer began to approach what appeared to be a woman lying in the grass, he noticed there was also a loose dog, police said in a news release.

As the officer called out to the woman repeatedly concerning her welfare, the dog began to run towards the officer while barking.

The officer walked backwards from the running dog while drawing his gun.

The officer fired it multiple times towards the dog.

“After the shots were fired, the woman yelled out and it was apparent she was injured,” police said in the news release.

You have been a FR member for 21 years and never seen a thread containing cop worship and absolution after they killed someone in questionable circumstances?

If you had, you would know what a badge-licker was. There have been multiple "cops can do no wrong" types come and go in my 14 years here. Most seem to have disappeared.

Note the very first name on the ping list, Alaska Wolf, he (she?) was a badge-licker extraordinaire.

There was never any use of force, no matter how egregious, no matter how lethal, no matter how submissive or innocent the victim, that he was able to find the slightest fault on the part of the cop.

Sounds to me that he was the only one that deserved it. Whoever gave that idiot a badge and gun needs to go to prison.

Dr. Clarissa Cole on After Hours AM April 17, 2019

(Start at 78:31)

Dr. Cole: He had an epiphany; he was going to become a cop!

Eric Olsen: Ha ha ha what??? Uh, so, wait a minute, he was told by a former employer, if you ever, you better never get a job where you have influence over others, an authority position, or I’ll do whatever it takes to stop you. So wouldn’t becoming a cop kinda give him the ultimate authority over people?

Dr. Cole: Well, you know, lucky for all these other people, he kept moving from county to county so they weren’t really, uh, yeah, it is the ultimate authority he was just moving around so people wouldn’t know what he was doing, and I think getting out of the teaching profession they didn’t know what he was going to do.

He eventually applied to the Broward County Police Unit; he was rejected, though, because he failed the psychological test.

Eric Olsen: Oh that’s it he’s out of the career. No career for him He’s obviously unstable…

Dr. Cole: One, you know what? One would think so, and I actually used to perform these psych tests, and oh, do I have stories! You would think that it would even, it’s supposed to, let me tell you how it’s supposed to work, it’s supposed to prevent you from getting a job as a police officer or a prison guard.

Eric Olsen: Sure.

Dr. Cole: Does that always occur?

Eric Olsen: I would hope that it does.

Dr. Cole: No, no, no, I would say 50% of the time.

Eric Olsen: What?

Dr. Cole: It’s supposed to be a be a requirement, a REQUIREMENT, if you don’t pass, if you are not psychologically fit, you are not supposed to become a police officer or a prison guard. Does that actually preclude you from becoming a police officer even as long ago as what, 2005? No, I was doing them in 2005. Half of the people I rejected still became a cop.

Eric Olsen: How does that happen? How do they get around this?

Dr. Cole: Oh God there so many ways

Eric Olsen: Is it a buddy, a dad?

Dr. Cole: My son, he’s the son of my buddy, his dad a cop, he has to be a cop, he’s going to work in this county and we’re really understaffed, we need people, we know he failed, but it’s OK. The amount of excuses I heard to employ people.

And that’s the thing, just so the general public is aware, it’s difficult to fail, it’s difficult to fail one of these psychological…

Eric Olsen: What would cause one…

Dr. Cole: It’s not like the bar is so darned high that no one could pass, it’s nothing LIKE that, this test is just to find out is this person basically psychologically stable, are they non-sadistic, do they not have criminal or punishing tendencies or narcissistic tendencies themselves. Basically you’re trying to weed out anybody that has a like God complex; I’m judge, jury, and executioner. You want to get those people out of there. You’re trying to get people out of there that are just psychiatrically so unstable that they can’t control their emotions so, maybe some sort of bipolar thing going on or somebody that absolutely clearly has a personality disorder, like narcissistic personality disorder, antisocial personality disorder, borderline personality disorder. They are not

Eric Olsen: Checks and balances. Checks and balances to protect the general public from somebody that would not do well in that position.

Dr. Cole: And I was very, yeah, I was extremely, forgiving on these psychological tests even when somebody would sort of hit sort of some of those marks on the tests we would give, I would ask in interviews I would ask a ton of questions just to be very, very sure that this person was indeed failing the psychological exam, and I did not fail that many people, but the people I failed, please believe me that it was for extremely good reasons, extremely good reasons, and half of them became cops anyway.

Eric Olsen: So when they ‘d leave would they go to a different state and do it?

Dr. Cole: Hah no, they would get hired by different a county, like a couple minutes over usually. Somebody knew them and “Now let’s pick them up.” No, no, no, he has really strong sadistic tendencies and fantasies of rape and murder, you really shouldn’t hire him and they would. And that’s exactly, I hope it’s different that was like I said, this was in 2005, it scared the heck out of me and I said I would never have a career doing that I don’t want to know that those people are becoming officers.

Eric Olsen: Tell me it’s in the minority, though, that this happens.

Dr. Cole: It’s in the minority that people fail, the majority of people passed. But those that do fail, like I said it’s for very good reason, but half of them. Half of them got picked up. So no, it’s not a minority a full 50% got hired.

Eric Olsen: That is truly a scary number out there that 50% of...

Dr. Cole: It’s a small sample, a small sample that was in a place that was economically depressed and needed officers…

Well, one thing is for certain, this ol boy will be looking for another line of work.

Perhaps.

Perhaps the police department will investigate itself and find no wrong doing.

Which way to bet?

The black mask kinda looks like a Mountain Cur/Black Mouth Cur mix.

Could be GSD or Mal mix, even.

Dogs do not understand badges.

I have PTSD/balance/support dogs but I'm afraid to take them out anymore.

What if my hypoglycemia or vertigo knocks me flat and someone tries to get close to me?

The boy would permit, most likely but his sister will not.

I can't use my support dogs for fear someone will kill them while they're doing their job.

What a world.

*Somehow*, meter readers, cable/satellite/phone installers and my USPS, FedEx and UPS drivers have survived Dobermans, all these years.

It’s some kind of miracle, I reckon.

Looks pretty ferocious. Dogs don’t understand badges, and most cops seemingly don’t understand dogs. He was there to do a welfare check. It stands to reason that the dog was at its’ masters side, and would make a straight line to the approaching “threat.” That puts the woman directly behind the dog. No shoot.

All some people really care about is the tiniest possibility that there was a “pitbull” anywhere in that dog’s woodpile.

Sick but true.

Looks like a Black Mouthed Cur or mix of, to me.

I am so sorry Shibumi died.

He was a comedic “fan” of that person.

We used to laugh about her all the time.

I would not have been impressed.

I see dogs charging when visiting people all the time.

Almost always, it’s useless bluster.

It’s one of the reason I have Dobes and not some other “psych!” breed.

“If you had, you would know what a badge-licker was. There have been multiple “cops can do no wrong” types come and go in my 14 years here. Most seem to have disappeared.”

I suspect if one were to take a poll of all Freepers, the overwhelming majority of them respect and admire that thin line of blue that stands between us and a total breakdown of law and order in our crime ridden society. You sir, are the minority viewpoint, not me.

It’s obvious that in your 14 years you’ve been on this website, you have sought out the anti-Cop threads to entertain yourself with, as an outlet to meet up with others of like mind to rage against authority figures.

You have made a poor choice of a day to vent your bile about law enforcement on, considering it was hero Cops that rushed into that mall in El Paso, TX in order to stop the shooter from causing more havoc than he did. And they caught the Perp in remarkably short order.

I don’t have too much trouble with any particular breed. More concerning is the usual lack of socialization that these dogs have. Almost invariably sold or given away in front of stores ( think Wal-Mart)at 5 weeks of age. And a lot of them, at least around here, are at least half pit. See my profile page for a picture of mine....exercised Well socialized, exercised every day, taught to hunt ducks, and still more of a handful than twins.

That was my first impression. He lived a block over from me.. The first time I saw him, he was in profile, and turned to look at me. Made quite an impression. About a week later, I was walking my dog in a neighborhood cemetery, and he came running up to me. He was loose, so I took him back to his house. I talked to the owners, and when I said “ pitbull” it surprised them. They immediately became concerned because they had smallish children. This was in the late ‘’80s, and he was about 5 months old. He wasn’t yet square-headed, and “ pitbull” was just becoming a curse word.
They asked if I knew anyone that wanted him, so I started walking to a friend’s house to ask him. About halfway there, I turned around and went back and got him.

My bet is that they will investigate and clear him. The fly in the ointment will be whether the Fire Captain has enough juice to prevent it. Other than that it is a shoo in.
