CASHION, Okla. - A 65-year-old woman was tasered and arrested in Cashion, Oklahoma, on July 17, after refusing to sign an $80 ticket for a broken tail light, fleeing from the police officer, and reportedly trying to kick him during her arrest.

"I don't think I deserve to pay $80 for something that is fixable," Hamil tells the officer while refusing to sign the ticket. She proceeded to tell the officer she would be fair with him and that he was "full of (expletive)".

A police chase ensued and Hamil continued to resist arrest as shown in the video. During the altercation, Hamil attempts to kick the arresting officer while shouting "You better leave me alone."
Hamil was dragged out of her vehicle, continues to resist arrest, and is subsequently tasered by the officer.
Eventually, the officer was able to detain Hamil who later told him "Yeah, I tried to kick you, because I'm a country girl."

The cop is a total p****.
He couldn’t manually subdue some 65 year old woman? What a fag...
These circumstances are exactly why in the state of Washington you don’t have to sign the ticket anymore, at least once every couple of months you had some person who just refused to sign the ticket and you ended up having to arrest them for what was a traffic infraction to start with.
Before she gets her license back, her mental capacity should be checked.
Reminds me a lot of my landlord’s wife! She’s not quite as old but easily as mean or more so!
80 dollars is a lot of money for most people in Oklahoma. I know a teacher with a PHD that makes peanuts. An 80 dollar fine would hurt.
One word for the woman: stupid.
She turned a trivial problem into a major one.
He is not good at selling his actions to the person he is interacting with.
I don’t enjoy 2nd guessing an officer since “i was not there” is actually A valid reason to withhold judgment and most police interactions.
However come I having been in the same situation multiple times, you absolutely need to let them make The Choice of signing or not signing after you inform them that if they refused to sign it is a criminal action. You tell them I don’t wanna have to arrest you because you won’t sign the ticket which is just promising you’re going to go to court or pay the fine it is not an admission of guilt.
He went straight from your not gonna sign it to get out the car you’re under arrest.
.
She is absolutely clueless to entire time she’s talking she’s giving him more more reasons not to give her a warning.
I don’t think he woulda gave her a warning one way or another and I’m virtually certain hes a traffic enforcement official in auto based upon the road a ticket for a broken taillight when somebody had all their other paperwork in order.
But you simply must let the violator make an informed decision she wasn’t cursing she was it yelling she wasn’t being disrespectful even when she said she was going to sign the ticket she was calm.
There is a high probability if he spent 5 or 10 minutes talking to her about it and as much as I hate having a call a supervisor for every little thing, he could have even had his boss come out so she could do a little more complaining before she decided she was going to sign the ticket.
It’s always better, when it’s safe to do so, to talk it out rather than have some high speed Chase over a refusal to sign a ticket.
That is just my personal opinion based upon my experience doing the very job he does.
The woman is dumb but I agree that an $80 ticket for a broken tail light is ridiculous. A warning would be in order.
I agree with your statement, but I think if he had handled it a little bit differently he could have massage this into something a lot less dramatic.
It does not mean that she shouldn’t suffer whatever legal fate is coming to her but having done that job for some time now I believe it could have went much differently if he had handled it differently.
She was lucky she wasn’t shot. And her dog if she had a dog. We’re talking Oklahoma cops.
$80 for a broken tail light seems ridiculous. Every time Ive heard of someone getting a broken safety equipment ticket, if the driver fixed it and reported to one of the specified inspection places to verify the repair, the fine went away.
Of course, I sont Know anyone who fled from the police when getting such a ticket.
She does seem to have a logical point.
Most states only require one tail light, like many old cars were equipped with from the factory.
Unfortunate. In some states it’s sign the ticket for a court date or get arrested and go to court now.
The only reason cops pull folks over for this sort of thing is to see if their drunk or can smell dope.
She should have just signed the ticket and be on her way.
Police always tell you that you are not admitting guilt by signing the ticket, it is just proof for him that he gave it to you.
You can still fight the ticket in cort, or go to traffic school, or just pay it.
Don’t sign nuffin w/o a Lieyah present.
Afterall Comey is NOT going to jail much less trial for FAR worse.
The only issue I have with what this officer did was that he did not tell her that she would get arrested if she did not signed the ticket. However, she probably wouldve been a total witch anyway. Just obey the officer. Its really simple.
Yeah shes a c(o)untry girl all right.
Cops really aren’t doing themselves any favors with PR.
If some fellow officer would have roughed up a 65 year old woman back in the day.... my father - as a fellow officer - would have dragged him behind the station and kicked his ass.
