My BIL is a walking example of this theory. Everyday I expect him to keel over. The doctors have been warning him for years. He will not lose weight. He just says give me a pill.

“Fat people get sick more.”

You may be missing the gist of the article. It isn’t saying in this article that obesity causes illness. It’s saying illnesses like diabetes and others cause obesity that causes other illnesses. From the article:

“....the link between genetic obesity risks and more than 900 disease outcomes.”

There is no such thing as fat people. There are reasons why people get obese. The one they mention in the article is diabetes. I’m one of those people that is overweight because I’m insulin resistant and depend upon injected insulin to offset the problem which I have been practicing since 1987. And no matter what you do with your diet, the requirement changes everyday. It has nothing to do with calorie, carb, or fiber intake. It is an illness that causes fat storage especially around the core body area. So if your pancreas decides to pump more bad insulin into your system today, you are at that mercy and have to correct the best you can. But you’re going to lose. And anyone who is hyperglycemic, faces this issue. The opposite, hypo, main problem is staying up with the food intake needs. But they face the same problems as each can be deadly when the blood sugar goes too low. It’s a crap shoot everyday.

So the article is misleading. It is not a link from obesity to disease, It is a link from and between disease to disease. And we already knew that. They could have wasted the money saving some fly somewhere.

They are finding out that many diseases are diabetes related. It is all about excess sugar and insulin in the blood.
