The first trailer for Sam Mendes' epic war drama 1917 was released on Thursday.
Starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Colin First as battle-worn military men, the film follows two young soldiers who are tasked with an impossible mission to save the lives of 1600 men.
Set in the height of World War I, the intense teaser opens with leads George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman entering an underground bunker, supposedly used by their allies who were taken captive.

Bit confused as to the plot. The 2 Tommies need to cross enemy lines to deliver a message stopping an attack?
The major British campaign in 1917 was Passchendaele.
It’s Colin and Benedict. I don’t care if there IS a plot.
Vimy Ridge was in 1917, broke the Germans back right there.
Benderbum Cummersnatch as a soldier?
I guess they needed every able bodied “male”
He is not gay.
I have no idea who they are.
Hes OK as long as he doesnt have to talk about penguins.
I sure did, just before Christmas here in Southwest Florida.
There’s not many movies I can say were too short. I could have watched another half hour, easily.
I left this one thinking “Jackson concentrated only on the Western Front ground war. Why not do sequels about the air and naval conflicts and make it a trilogy?”
We men arent just sex toys for you wom.....
Aw heck, sure we are.

“I have no idea who they are.”
You might check out: The Kings Speech, with Colin Firth.
A truly excellent movie regarding King George VI and his taking the kingship after his brother abdicated the throne. King George VI had a stuttering problem and this movie was not allowed to be produced until the Queen gave permission after her mother - the Queen Mum - had passed.
Nevil Chamberlin, Winston Churchill and a stuttering King attempting to address the nation via the radio, played by Colin Firth all getting ready to fight Nazis (excluding Chamberlin).
One of the few foreign film ever to win the ‘oscar’ for best film...in this instance it’s well rewarded.
Colin Firth plays the role extremely well — you, just, just, just want to help, help, help him finish a sentence.
It was bizarre to see Colin Firth in “Conspiracy” as one of the attendees of The Wannsee Conference.
Thats why they call it acting!
Saw that too, did you?

Will cue in the LGBT person of color next; to be fair I mean. And then, some Brit general (Haig?) will cancel some offense because two twits crossed all that to deliver a message?
I would be surprised if it does not have a subversive leftist subtext.
War is ugly and bloody enough as is, without subverting actual history.
I looked forward to Dunkirk, and was extremely disappointed by what Nolan did.

My wife and I saw it in 3D at a local multiplex one weekday evening. We were the only ones in the theater, and I wondered if we hadnt bought tickets, would they have shown it at all that night. The next day it was gone. We were entranced from start to finish. It could have been two hours longer, and it would have been too short. As moving as the war footage was, the heaviest blow was when they came back home and everyone just pretended that the last four years never happened.
