I thought Detroit was bad until I drove through Baltimore (20 years ago).
In the ‘70’s I worked briefly at one of the Baltimore network affiliate TV stations in the newsroom on the Assignments Desk. My job was to monitor the police and fire frequencies on a scanner and make rounds of calls to the city and surrounding counties’ police PIO’s to find out what was going on that we could cover. On a very slow news day (most of them started out like that), you’d go through your evergreen file with leads on people who had called complaining about neighborhood problems. Rat infestation was one such evergreen and about once every two months I would send a reporter and camera crew to some address in some marginal inner city Baltimore neighborhood to talk to old ladies about their rat problems. Every once in awhile one would oblige the cameras with an appearance. That would make at least a voice over for the 11.
Was it a Russian rat?

I watched the video, full screen, just to make sure I see it clearly, and sure enough a real rat came out of a cellar, ran across the area, there was no doubt.

Funny i’ve lived in philly for 35 years all over before i bought my house and have walked most of the streets in the central area between the delaware river and schuylkill river and between girard ave on the north and south steet south. The only rat i have ever seen was coming out of the garden on the broad street side of “CITY HALL”. ha ha ha.
I remember fifty five years ago, NYC had a rat problem. They decided to fix it by offering a bounty on dead rats, just turn in their tails. This would allow people to kill rats and earn cash.
Not one rat or rat tail was turned in for the bounty. The people wanted the CITY to do the work they were not willing to do.
I still remember seeing adds in farm magazines back then offering money for rat tails “for research”.
Give that rat an extra ration of cheese! And a cigar!
