Well that should have stopped it right there. Guess the ag check station at I-80 in Truckee doesn’t ask about guns. Most of the time they just wave you past anyway. Besides, there are plenty of other roads into kali.

The Gun Store owner did not need to apologize, but it is appropriate and understandable why he did, and I agree with his action and some of the remorse he may feel being associated with the gun owner who chose to commit an evil atrocity.

There is a lot of speculation and ignorance on this post. The culprit was a Nevada resident that legally purchased the rifle as detailed by the Gilroy Chief of Police. The killer broke the law bringing the gun across state lines. Yep, a lot of good that silly law did. He broke the law as well if he purchased the ammunition in Nevada and brought it over the border as well. He probably broke the speed limit on his way to Gilroy too. He broke another law by having magazines that holds more than 10 rounds. None of this prevented a killer with a sick mind and evil intent. How was the gun dealer supposed to know or prevent all of this. This killer likely would have also passed a back ground check if he purchased a similar type of legal semiautomatic rifle in California without the evil assault rifle features as found with a featureless legal rifle. In the end those that abuse weapons bare the responsibility. More people died in California that day from abusing drugs and liquor but we don't hear about alcohol prohibition anymore. How many drunk drivers hurt or killed people over the weekend? How many people texting on their phones hurt or killed people. Banning guns is not the answer. If a concealed carry permit holder had been in that crowd he could have prevented more deaths just as quickly as the first officer on site responding did.

Nope. No apology. They did their job.

And...
Background checks don't work.

Love the title of the article in that link:

“Gilroy Garlic Festival gunman used a rifle banned in California”

How are those California laws working out for ya, Gavin, Harris, DiFi?

Another article mentions that while the shooter was from Cali originally he had recently been living in Nevada.

BTT!!

Not to mention that the California Sheriff has stated that the rifle was LEGALLY PURCHASED in Nevada! Which means he probably had a NV ID, but then ILLEGALLY carried the rifle across state lines.

Here's a pic of the SKS. I believe that an SKS, as configured in the pic below, would be legal in California. The Sheriff in the article so stated.

Here's some contradictory information from another article:

"While California law generally outlaws assault rifles, an SKS can be purchased legally, so long as it hasn’t been modified to include a detachable magazine and at least one other illegal feature such as a pistol grip stock. Authorities didn’t say whether the weapon used in Gilroy was modified.

California’s top law enforcement official said the gun used in Gilroy was illegal in California.

'That weapon could not be sold in California; that weapon cannot be imported into the state of California,' said Attorney General Xavier Becerra at a press conference in San Francisco.

At the same time, California law generally prohibits anyone under 21 from buying a firearm. The Gilroy gunman, who was killed by police at the festival, was 19. The minimum age in Nevada is 18.

Experts on gun regulation said that federal law prohibits licensed gun sellers from selling weapons to out of state residents. At a Monday morning press conference, Gilroy officials didn’t say where Legan got his weapon in Nevada."

It will be interesting to see what happens to the Nevada gun dealer.

I believe you just single handedly destroyed the media's narrative.

He couldn’t buy in California since he needed to be 21 on July 9th when he purchased the rifle (only military and law enforcement excepted). He had to have had a Nevada ID and address in order to have obtained this in Nevada...there is simply no other way he could have legally purchased this over the internet and DROS’d it in California. Regardless of whether he did purchase it legally in Nevada, there is still question as to whether this rifle was legal in California. I’ve seen reports of a folding stock...thus California “illegal”. The “legally obtained” narrative is very suspect...and it’s telling that they said so quickly but then haven’t provided more facts to really establish that.

I question the credentials of these "experts."

So, does California feel the need to keep out immigrants (from the other states)?

If it was legally obtained, it furthers the narrative that more laws are needed.

If it was illegally obtained, it shows that the unconstitutional laws don’t work.

What path would you expect them to be predisposed to go down?

An apology will get you a law suit. Keep your mouth shut. The gun used in the shooting was legally sold and obtained. The shooter is the criminal.

Is there a limit on hammers one can purchase at a time? I saw a probable illegal walk out of a discount tool store with 20 hammers once. Not one nail either.

The article you linked states (regarding the WASR-10 rifle):

A federal weapons expert was not familiar with the company that manufactured the rifle...

IIRC, the WASRs are manufactured by Cugir, which even Wikipedia notes is "a Romanian state owned defense company that is one of the oldest defense companies of Romania... [with] a history that can be traced back to 1799 during the Austro-Hungarian Empire."

So much for 'federal weapons experts'...

It was legally obtained.

It was illegally brought across the state border.

So, now California legislature will call for strict enforcement and border walls with Oregon and Nevada so they can have check points and search all vehicles and people crossing the border. They will do this and still leave an open border with Mexico with no checks and no enforcement. It will than be easier to cross the border with Mexico into California with drugs, ammo, guns, nuclear dirty bombs, Guatemalans, Ecuadorians, Hondurans, Somalians, ISIS muslim terrorists, etc.....
