Bruce Lee’s Daughter Saddened by ‘Mockery’ in ‘Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood’ (Exclusive)

Bruce Lee’s daughter, Shannon Lee, says it was “disheartening” to see Quentin Tarantino depict her father in “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood” as “an arrogant a–hole who was full of hot air.”

In the film, (spoilers follow), Brad Pitt’s stuntman character, Cliff Booth, trades cocky insults with Bruce Lee (Mike Moh), and the two agree to an informal, best two-out-of-three rounds fight on the set of “The Green Hornet” TV show. Lee easily knocks Booth down in the first round, but in the second, Booth slams Lee into a car, stunning him. The fight is interrupted before the third round.

Shannon Lee said it’s disheartening to see her father portrayed as an arrogant blowhard, because in truth, as an Asian-American in 1960s Hollywood, he had to work much harder to succeed than Booth and Rick Dalton (Leonardo Dicaprio), the fictional, white protagonists of the film.

I LOVED Pulp Fiction. One of my all time faves. Nothing Tarantino has done after has been good.

If you leave out all the homo stuff, Hateful 8 was a pretty good western. Sort of a “whodunnit.” 1870s style.

There was about 30 minutes of “Dusk to Dawn” worth watching. Otherwise, yeah, he has pretty much made crap since PF.

That was directed by Robert Rodriguez, Tarantino did write the script, and made a cameo appearance in the movie.

They didn’t exist. They had to work much harder to ever get to the screen. They had to birthed from QT’s mind

I have liked all of his movies, even though I didn’t LOVE all of them.

But he doesn’t make bubblegum cookie cutter movies like 95% of Hollywood movies.

His movies make you think. Most movies I forget about in about 5 minutes.

It was certainly not what I expected from Tarantino, but there were two really funny parts, the twist ending and the Bruce Lee fight scene with Brad Pitt. Sorry, but Bruce's daughter has to realize that Bruce is not above being made fun of/with.

Agree. I didn’t love the movie and I was rooting for it. I thought the Bruce Lee scene was very funny though.

Thanks, buddy! I would have testified (falsely it turns out) for years that QT directed Dusk to Dawn — and the creepy brother hat Tarantino played was a little more than a cameo though.

I wonder what she thought of the third The Gods Must Be Crazy movie (a Chinese offering titled Crazy Safari).

The same bushman becomes possessed by the fighting spirit of Bruce Lee (via a spell cast by a Chinese magician). It’s a horror comedy about a Chinese hopping vampire.

It's a movie. It's called artistic license. Film-makers do not have a responsibility to portray historical characters accurately. Unless they are making a documentary or something.

Most movies would be boring if they portrayed historical figures exactly how they were in real life. Take Patton for instance. Most of his war days were drudgery - paperwork, poring over maps, endless staff meetings...

Tarantino’s last good movie was Jackie Brown. His last two would have been much better if they had been pared down. They were too long and self indulgent.
