Robin Williams had a great joke in the 80s....he was a character in 2025, and he said ‘remember when all the people in california, surfed to denver?’

The godlike powers the ufo nuts have granted the bumbling incompetent NASA is wondrous to behold. Every sneeze becomes an omen of destruction to Art Bell’s minions.

Yeah, the quality of conspiracy theories has gone way down. It took me less than 5 minutes to track down what the NASA AC was doing. (DC-8 flying out of Boise). I think the lack of conspiracy theory quality is partially caused by ad-click/YouTube ad revenue...lots of people trying to make a buck with click-bail articles/videos.

Speaking of feeling tiny and insignificant. Sometimes I wonder what if We Humans, on Our Earth, in Our Solar System, in Our Galaxy, in the infinite never ending Space as We know it (or think We do) as We’re just in a speck of dust on the Head of a Pin stuck in the Pin Cushion of some Giant Seamstress on an EVEN BIGGER version of the above...?

Trump is testing DoD’s newly developed “Earthquake Ray”.

I’d guess “the big one” is a function of location, depth, and soils as much as magnitude (basically determining how much damage and casualties will occur). An 8.2 well away from population centers and in an area where the waves don’t “carry” well is “smaller”, by that definition, than a 7.5 on, say, the Hayward fault (not so often mentioned but VERY dangerous.)

Yup. I know a guy (good guy) who lives 2 blocks from the Hayward Fault. So, I read up on it. It’s a very dangerous fault... I’d move, and I say that as someone well within reach of powerful effects if (when) either the New Madrid or Wabash faults decide to let go again in a big way...

If CA is fortunate, the Big One will hit while Trump is prez.

I can’t think of anyone better for ramrodding the response to a natural disaster of that magnitude.

I'm guessing it was a test of ground-penetrating radar, looking for cracks and voids, and making a reference map of what's underground so that it can be compared with later scans, looking for shifts.

Interesting research paper from a few years back: Stress-Induced Changes in the Electrical Conductivity of Igneous Rocks and the Generation of Ground Current.

Short summary: putting rock under stress (like in an impending earthquake zone) changes how it conducts electricity. One of the scientists studying this is with NASA.

The change in conductivity could be detectable with ground-penetrating radar.

“It’s almost as if it is scanning the ground as if to try and get more data about what is happening underneath.

Imagine that.

Wow.

Boy, these folks are paranoid.

80,000 aftershocks? Does that warrant a review of the area?

Duh.

Yes, the original Richter Scale "magnitude" is based on ground movement.

Now, magnitude is based on energy released, and ground movement is a consequence of proximity to the focus of the quake, the type of rocks and terrain, etc.

Each order of magnitude is 32 x greater than the number beneath it. Thus a magnitude 4 quake releases 32 times the energy of a magnitude 3 quake, and so on.

I’m in the Ozarks in MO and met a lady out here who bought hilltop property because she saw some youtube vid by some ex-navy guy that said the Big One will have everything West of the Ozarks drop off the map. She figured her hilltop was going to look over the ocean.

Takes all kinds.
