Kelly McGillis, who played Tom Cruise's love interest in "Top Gun," claims she wasn't asked to reprise her role in the sequel "Top Gun: Maverick."
In the 1986 original, McGillis' character, Charlotte "Charlie" Blackwood, is not only Maverick's lover, she's also his flight instructor.
Entertainment Tonight asked the actress if she'd attend any of the film's promotional events, and she was diplomatic yet candid in her response, admitting, "I don't know how to answer that because one, it hasn't happened. Two, if and when it did happen, I would have to assess where I am, what I'm doing, what's going on ... I can't project what I would or wouldn't do in the future. I have no idea because I don't know where I'll be."
She added that she hasn't even seen the trailer for the sequel, noting "Movies are odd things. I don't really keep in touch with anybody. I think I've spoken to a couple of people occasionally, but the truth is, movies are very odd work situations because you have a lot of people who come together from all different parts of the world."
Jennifer Connelly has a role in the upcoming "Top Gun: Maverick," though it's unclear what part she'll play. If she's going to be Cruise's paramour in the popcorn flick, McGillis isn't bitter about it.
McGillis, 62, says she left Hollywood entirely in order to get healthy physically and psychologically.

Wow. What a disturbing image. As a teen in the ‘80s, I thought Kelly was hot when I saw ‘Witness’ and ‘Top Gun.’ It never would have occurred to me that she was a bull dyke in the making. Back then, I also thought Alyssa Milano was really cute on “Who’s the Boss?”

6 years ago when I was starting here in L.A., I was under the wing of a CSA casting director and one of the kids who auditioned was really beautiful and 12 years old. I looked at the bio before the interview and by coincidence, was the daughter of one of the fugliest girl from my HS, whom I turned down for a date back then because my ‘rep’ would go down.
That girl beats, ON THE LOOKS DEPARTMENT, every other girl in the audition room hands down..it’s a small world.
Some people here aren’t harassing her because of her age or appearance. Go see post 16 and post 33 for reasons.

That’s a good point.
But still, if McGills wants a role in the sequel, I’d give her one. It would be a small role, maybe a few seconds of screen time. But I’d sure try to avoid standard liberal blacklisting. You know what I mean. Liberal producer: “Back in 2005, he said something bad about gays. So no way will we put him in our movie today.”

True. Not a big fan of the gay Scientologist, but gotta hand it Cruise: He looks pretty doggone good for a guy approaching 60...and still doing most of his movie stunts, including jumping from buildings and hanging on to the outside of a flying cargo aircraft.

Hi Chick, it is a nice membership site affiliated with our religion with lots of moderating and pre-qualification going on. I have not yet met anyone in person. You have to state your acceptance of Catholic moral tenets, such as being pro-life (can post without endorsing such but it is a black eye). Combined with other things they say or don’t say, and photos they post, I am generally able to judge character on that site. Many post info about their involvement in local parishes and most are more involved than me (often with ethnic Asian parishes) (as you know, I really don’t have a local parish because of Latin Mass preference). I avoid any who don’t endorse Catholic principles (of course), but it is sad that a significant number are not pro-life, etc. A larger number depart from the faith in accepting artificial contraception, but not a practical personal issue at my/our ages. If you have any other thoughts on the matter please post or Freepmail them because I know you are Wise-Chick (if not actually Latina).
