Taco. Have owned both. Prefer Tacos.
Dont personally know much about either - I’m a full-size pickup guy. But my soon-to-be son-in-law has a Nissan Frontier Pro 4X and is quite happy with it.
On my second Nissan Frontier. Had a 2000 that had 212K on it when I traded it in (wanted 4WD). Got a 2006, was great up to 150K when the transmission went south (a known problem on the 2005 and 2006) fixed on 2007 and up. Was in good enough shape otherwise that I popped for a new transmission and plan on keeping it until it hits 200K.
Toyotas are also excellent, but pricier. Hold their value better too. Since I drive my trucks into oblivion, that’s not as much of a consideration.
The other thing: No need for it to be souped up.
Buy in October after the 2020 models come out and they are looking to unload the 2019’s or earlier models.
Take a wad of cash with you, even if you need to finance part of it. Waive it under their noses, LOL!
Decide on your fair price based upon your research (Blue Book, what ‘extras’ are already on the car, etc.) and WALK AWAY if they won’t meet it, though leave them your phone number. ;)
I’m considering the same this fall or next. (I think I can get my cars (Ford Escape, Volkswagon Golf) to limp through another year!)
Interested to read other opinions/negotiation techniques!
Toyota.
Period.
Worth every single penny.
It’s not even a contest. Toyota trucks are dependable, and Toyota isn’t going out of business. Jap trucks in general suffered from rust issues twenty years ago, but nowadays maintain their body integrity as well as any Ford or Chevy, but you get a quarter million mile engine.
FORD F-150
Or
FORD F-250
Stay away from anything Nissian. I had a Frontier and it was OK. Nissian has gone downhill in the last 10 years though. The Company may be gone in a few years and you don’t want to be stuck with an albatross.
Look a resale, a Tacoma can last 20 years and 300,000 miles.
What’s not to like.
Scroll down to the article below...”Is Nissan About to Go Belly Up?”
Good buying opportunity? Maybe..
I go with Mariner. I have owned two Tundras. Both were awesome. I would still own the first, but I bought it from a buddy at 140k and after a while didn’t need it any longer. He bought it back. Then, I needed a truck and the guy wouldn’t sell it back to me. (Not fair!)
I bought a used 2004 last year with 100k on it. Love it, love it, love it.
Unless there is a particular reason you NEED a small truck, I’d go full sized. You can’t have too much space. The mileage is a steady 16 regardless of load. Go V8 as people tell me that is the only thing they regret not doing.
Oh, never mind. You’ve seen it. I should read moe than the title...
Toyota. My truck is 25 years old, 300K, and still going strong.
I will say, my daughter has a 2017 4Runner...built on a truck frame. It’s a very nice vehicle.
The Frontier is the most outdated truck on the market. The Tacoma ranks second. I hate to say it but the new Fords and Chevy do almost EVERYTHING better. This includes ride, comfort, quietness, towing capacity, convenience, power, fuel mileage. The Chevy according to Consumer Reports, it is as reliable as the Tacoma. The jury is still out on the Ranger.
I have a ‘04 Frontier and it is a really good work truck. I was always a Chevy guy but was talked into an ‘18 F150 with the Coyote engine. I really love it. The only thing the smaller trucks do better than a full-size truck is park.I get 22-23 highway. Quietess and smoothest vehicle I’ve ever driven.
Personally, I am a Nissan customer. I am on my 7th Titan (XD Diesel) and have not had a problem with any (with exception to DEF fluid issues with cold weather).
I have travelled extensively to Bolivia and the ranchers I work with all drove Toyotas. Their reasoning is the Toys did not rattle loose as Nissan’s did on bad roads.
Sorry for the ramblings but Toys are good vehicles but you will pay more.
Or you get and refurbish one of these!
Do I really need to say this is a joke?
Have you considered a Canyon or Colorado?
I drove a Canyon with the small Duramax and it was very impressive. The owner (a friend) is getting some great fuel mileage out of it around 28-30 mpg.
Also the new Ford Ranger looks real nice.
Im working on a deal for a leftover new 2018 Ram diesel Bighorn 4x4 quad cab. As of right now they are $12k off sticker price but Im holding out for $15k off. Original sticker is $62k.
Just earlier today i read a story, will Nissan still exist after 2022 it is doing so poorly.
Like Pontiac, you may think twice as getting service and parts may become a problem there.
Just saying.
